Last 6 months: 4 reviews, 2 negative. ## The honest read Superior Pool & Construction is a West Haven pool company with a split record: 4 stars on Google from 16 ratings, but 3.6 on Thumbtack from 31 and 3.8 on HomeAdvisor and Angi from 25 each. Marcelo is the name customers use, for better and worse. The 2026 reviews pull both ways. A June 2026 Thumbtack reviewer said their project started last October and still had not been completed, calling Marcelo unreliable and full of excuses, and a July 2026 reviewer said the price quoted at the pool visit changed a week later when they tried to book. A June 2026 customer gave four stars while noting communication was not great and the job took longer than requested. On the other side, a June 2026 Google reviewer said the company kept up cleaning the pool, made interim visits after storms and handled the opening and closing. The complaints go back years and share a shape — money paid, work unfinished. In a May 2022 review a customer said they paid about $7800 in installments, the crew removed the old liner and then stopped coming, and they later learned bringing the project up to code would cost more. A May 2021 reviewer said a pool project begun in March was never finished and another contractor had to complete it. June 2025 reviews on Google and Thumbtack describe a $1300 job another pool company called garbage and a crew that brought children to the site, and June 2024 reviews describe a $380 opening where a plug was left in and skimmer covers were not put on. The praise is just as specific. In July 2025 a customer said Marcelo came the very next day to clear an above ground pool that had turned to a swamp of tadpoles, and a December 2025 Thumbtack customer said the crew tiled their bathroom floor. A November 2025 customer had a kitchen backsplash tiled, appliances installed and wainscoting and trim added. An October 2023 pool remodel customer said the workers cleaned up after themselves each night. The company says it has been in business 25 years and offers free estimates. Connecticut lists its home improvement registration HIC.0655884, held by Superior Pool & Construction LLC, as active. **Strengths:** - Pool upkeep — a 2026 reviewer cited ongoing cleanings and storm visits - Fast response — a 2025 customer had a swamped pool cleared next day - Tile and trim — two late-2025 reviews describe indoor work **Concerns:** - Unfinished projects — 2021, 2022 and 2026 reviews describe stalled pool jobs - Price changes — a 2026 quote changed a week after the visit - Botched openings — 2024 and 2025 reviews describe work redone elsewhere - Communication — a 2026 customer said it was not great ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - 4 stars on Google from 16 ratings; 3.6 on Thumbtack from 31; 3.8 on HomeAdvisor and Angi from 25 each _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Superior%20Pool%20%26%20Construction&query_place_id=ChIJT_tosUKZjYcR8dhH8cjlLoM) — “Google: 4★ from 16 ratings” - [HomeAdvisor](https://www.homeadvisor.com/rated.SuperiorPool.85356569.html) — “HomeAdvisor: 3.8★ from 25 ratings” - [Angi](https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ct/west-haven/superior-pool-construction-llc-reviews-1.htm) — “Angi: 3.8★ from 25 ratings” - [Thumbtack](https://www.thumbtack.com/ct/west-haven/swimming-pool-removal/superior-pool-construction-llc/service/537725402783891458?spotlightWebMarkupEnabled=1) — “Thumbtack: 3.6★ from 31 ratings” - A June 2026 reviewer said a project begun the previous October was still not complete _(confidence: high)_ - [Thumbtack](https://www.thumbtack.com/ct/west-haven/swimming-pool-removal/superior-pool-construction-llc/service/537725402783891458?spotlightWebMarkupEnabled=1) — “1★ My experience with this company and Marcelo has been HORRIBLE!
