## The honest read

Talbot Ecological Land Care works out of Mashpee and sells a particular kind of landscaping: plantings chosen for the site rather than off a catalog. In a 2020 Google review, a customer described a back-yard meadow the company curated from native and pollinator plants — gorgeous-looking and low-maintenance, they wrote, and thriving in the poor, unamended soil in that area.

Its BBB profile, filed under the alternate legal name Michael Talbot & Associates, Inc., describes conservation design and restoration carried out alongside conservation commissions, engineers, surveyors and biologists, plus the everyday side of the trade: sod, lawn treatments, sprinkler systems, flower beds, mulch and topsoil. Houzz lists a Certified Arborist number, NE-0838A, a Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist credential, and an Environmental Champion Award from the Association to Preserve Cape Cod.

Google's 3.7-star average there comes from three ratings, and both written accounts were posted years ago, in 2019 and 2020. The 2019 one is not about a garden: that reviewer described being cut off and tailgated by one of the company's trucks, which they said passed on the wrong side of the road, and said their call to complain ended with a hang-up.

One thing to settle before anything else — the BBB page carries an "Out-of-Business known or suspected" alert. Call the company and confirm it is still taking work before you plan a season around it.

For a Cape Cod property where the point is native planting, wetland-sensitive design, or a job that has to satisfy a conservation commission, this is the kind of outfit to talk to. Ask to see a recent project of similar scope, check the arborist certification with the certifying body, and get the planting plan and the maintenance it will need in writing.

**Strengths:**
- Native-plant meadows — a 2020 reviewer praised one planted in poor soil
- Arborist credential listed — Houzz shows Certified Arborist NE-0838A
- Conservation-commission work — BBB profile describes restoration with biologists and engineers

**Concerns:**
- Possible closure — BBB carries an Out-of-Business known or suspected alert
- Driver complaint — a 2019 reviewer described unsafe driving and a hang-up

Gorgeous appearance and low maintenance. It has been a pleasure and thrives in the poor unamended soil that was in that area
- **1/5 · Google Reviews · Definitely Not · 2019-06-23**: They have absolutely horrible drivers. Got cut off by a truck that proceeded to tailgate every car in front of him. He drove on the wrong side of the road (oncoming traffic) to pass cars. I called to complain and they hung up on me.
