--- title: "Thomas Burke Roofing & Gutters" description: "Four reviews from February 2026 are about the same emergency — ice dams pushing water into the house — and they describe the same answer: a crew up shovell" doc_version: "2026-09-20" last_updated: "2026-09-20" --- # Thomas Burke Roofing & Gutters **Trade:** Roofing · **Phone:** (781) 246-5622 · **Website:** http://burkeroofs.com/ · **Languages:** English **Rating: 4.1/5** (medium confidence) — from 20 reviews across 5 sources. 95% of sentiment-scored reviews read net-positive. Last 6 months: 5 reviews, 0 negative. ## The honest read Four reviews from February 2026 are about the same emergency — ice dams pushing water into the house — and they describe the same answer: a crew up shovelling snow, breaking up the ice in the gutters and laying down calcium chloride. Two of those customers had been quoted far more elsewhere; one said the other bids ran at least 2.5 times the cost and covered less than the whole roof. Thomas Burke Roofing & Gutters works out of Wakefield and says it was founded in 1941 as Thomas Burke & Sons, family owned and operated for over 65 years. Its BBB page is an A+, accredited since 1996, and lists a sole proprietorship with seven employees under owner Thomas Burke. Customers deal with both Toms: a February 2026 reviewer described the father handling the pricing and communication and the son arriving with the crew. The roof jobs land much the same way. In late May 2026, a Wakefield homeowner had the house reroofed and the gutters replaced in two and a half days, with a fair estimate, a clear contract setting out the job scope and advance notice of the start. A June 2026 customer's price came in consistent with two other quotes, and the crew arrived on time and finished as scheduled. In an August 2026 review, a homeowner whose roof leaked in heavy, windy rainstorms — a problem several contractors had tried and failed to fix — said Thomas got right back to him by phone and came out within a few days. Gutters and storm work fill in around the roofs. A September 2025 customer had gutters replaced and gutter guards installed over two consecutive days; a June 2023 family had their garage torn off and re-shingled with new gutters, several rotten boards replaced along the way, with the crew patient about the kids supervising from the kitchen window. Cleanup comes up in five accounts, from tarps laid before the tear-off in an October 2024 job to the walkways cleared after an ice-dam visit in January 2022. One customer had a bad experience and the account is specific: in August 2022, that homeowner said the roof was leaking and he refused to fix it, and that the rotted wood under the shingles was never replaced as the contract called for, leaving the new roof dipping in. A separate August 2022 review, this one 5-star, caught a cracked and missing roof board and quite a few nails scattered around the perimeter at final inspection. For ice dams and storm damage, this is the outfit that answers the phone and shows up, at prices several customers measured against much higher bids. For a full reroof, get the deck and rotted-wood replacement spelled out in the contract the way that May 2026 customer's was, and walk the roof and the perimeter with them at final inspection before the last payment. **Strengths:** - Ice dam response — four February 2026 reviews cover emergency ice and snow removal - Pricing under competing quotes — two February 2026 customers cite bids double or higher - Reroof in 2.5 days — a late-May 2026 Wakefield job included new gutters - Clear written scope — a May 2026 contract set out the job scope - Site cleanup — five reviews describe tarps, daily clearing, spotless property - Family business since 1941 — BBB accredited since 1996, A+ grade **Concerns:** - Leak after a reroof — one 2022 customer says he refused to return - Rotted deck under shingles — a 2022 review says the contract was not met - Final inspection punch list — an August 2022 reviewer found nails and a cracked board ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - 4.7 on Google from 25 ratings, with 20 written reviews from 2022 to 2026 across Google and the BBB _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Thomas%20Burke%20Roofing%20%26%20Gutters&query_place_id=ChIJgUvtIc0M44kRu0HHf6hvsMM) — “Google: 4.7★ from 25 ratings” - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/wakefield/profile/roofing-contractors/thomas-burke-roofing-gutters-0021-47938) — “BBB-accredited since 1996 with an A+ grade and a stated 85 years in business (started 1/1/1941), sole proprietorship run by owner Mr. Thomas…” - Four February 2026 reviews describe emergency ice-dam work: shovelling snow, breaking ice out of the gutters and applying calcium chloride _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sCi9DQUlRQUNvZENodHljRjlvT25WTmNtWmFVMloyZEhaeVFrWkxhVVJEU0daMWMwRRAB!2m1!1s0x0:0xc3b06fa87fc741bb!3m1!1s2@1:CAIQACodChtycF9oOnVNcmZaU2Z2dHZyQkZLaURDSGZ1c0E%7C%7C?hl=en) — “5★ Thomas Burke did my roof/skylights 2 years ago and my gutters last year. I appreciated the quick and easy communication and willingness to solve the problem. - **5/5 · Google Reviews · neil weisenfeld · 2026-02-10**: Very happy with their ice dam service. Tom (son) came with his guys and removed all ice and snow, shoveled, and put ice melt done. I’ll be using these guys again for sure. --- Data freshness: last scanned 2026-08-15T05:35:29.876Z.
