## The honest read

A 2026 customer who said they had used Town Oil in Wethersfield for heating oil for many years hired the company to replace a very old boiler and oil tank, a two-day project with Jessie on site throughout as project manager. The company says it has been in business for 63 years, and its website lists a service area that includes Hartford, West Hartford, New Britain, Middletown and Meriden. It holds an A+ BBB grade, is BBB accredited, and carries 4.8 stars from 152 Google ratings.

A 2026 customer wrote that they switched to Town Oil after a 2016 sales call from Tim Bonin, then president, and that the company is now managed under his daughter, Carin Oppelt. That customer said a quote for a new oil tank and boiler came directly from the president, and the tank and boiler are now installed. A 2026 customer in Wethersfield said Town Oil services their furnace and is their oil supplier, and a 2026 customer praised both the service staff and the oil delivery staff.

A 2026 customer asked about an oil tank replacement, got someone out for a quote the next day, and had a team at the house within five days of the financing coming through. A 2026 customer said Jerry and his team removed an oil tank from the basement and protected the carpet, with no oil spilled. A 2026 customer said the company gave a fair price for a new tank when the old one looked like it was leaking during a cold snap, pulled the town permit and installed it in a few hours.

The heating and cooling side gets the same kind of work. After a control panel fire left a 2026 customer needing a new furnace, Gerry from Town Oil quoted a fair price and the company came out fast to replace it. A 2026 customer said a central air system the company first installed 26 years ago was replaced in four hours. In a 2025 review, a customer said two service workers, both named Nick, took the time to investigate and fix a heat pump condenser.

A 2025 customer said a furnace tune-up at their rental property turned into work outside the agreed scope, charged to their card without approval, and that the furnace did not work right after the visit; a return trip changed another part, also charged without their knowledge. A 2025 customer said Town Oil delivered far more oil than requested and later delivered a full tank with no order, although they had told the company not to deliver again; an edit to that review says the company later offered a discount on the delivery. A 2025 customer of more than 15 years said Town Oil cost more than most companies and that lately they were not treated as a valued customer. A 2026 customer said there was no weekend service for central air.

**Strengths:**
- Oil tank replacement — a 2026 customer got a quote the next day
- Central air replacement — a 2026 customer said it took four hours
- Furnace after a fire — a 2026 customer got a fair quote and fast replacement
- Condenser repair — a 2025 customer said two workers investigated and fixed it

**Concerns:**
- Work outside scope — a 2025 customer was charged for unapproved furnace work
- Automatic delivery dispute — a 2025 customer said oil came without an order
- Weekend air service — a 2026 customer said there was none on weekends
