## The honest read

Turf Prep is a Woburn company that installs and looks after synthetic turf — backyard lawns and putting greens for homeowners, and the larger surfaces for schools, municipalities, dog parks, playgrounds and rooftops. Paul M Austin owns it and Tiffany Lawton is general manager, and BBB records an LLC incorporated in March 2012 with five employees. The state and federal registries both confirm it is veteran-owned and service-disabled-veteran-owned, with SBA VOSB and SDVOSB certifications and Massachusetts SDVOBE 20245066 all active to August 2027.

Customers keep naming the same handful of people. A homeowner writing in May 2026 had turf laid in a backyard playground area for their children and said the finished surface transformed the space. In July 2025 a customer who had a turf green put in at home said the consultation with owner Paul produced ideas that improved what they had pictured. Another 2025 reviewer, a family with six dogs, described Paul walking them through the options for keeping the yard both usable and good-looking, with Mike, Tom and Jack on the crew. In June 2025 a business owner said Mike and Tia coordinated a repair job onto the schedule quickly and the team worked carefully.

The jobs are not all installations. A customer writing in February 2025 ordered a small piece of turf for a basement workout room, was talked through the options, and had it invoiced and delivered inside a week. Another that month said the crew turned out at very short notice to clear snow and ice from a turf field. In July 2025 a reviewer credited Mike and the team for the surface at Saint Athanasius the Great's Little Halos Pre-school.

The dissenting voice is a one-star Google review from April 2024 calling the company extremely unprofessional. Google's overall figure is 4.3 stars from 11 ratings, and BBB grades the firm A+ without accrediting it.

Turf Prep fits a homeowner after a low-maintenance lawn, a putting green, a dog run or a play surface, and it is equally set up for a school or town field — it is a Certified CourtBuilder working with Sport Court. Ask which turf product suits your use, your dogs or your children, and settle what the maintenance, repair and safety-testing arrangement looks like after the install.

**Strengths:**
- Backyard playgrounds — a 2026 homeowner said the turf transformed the space
- Owner consultations — Paul's 2025 suggestions improved a home putting green
- Fast scheduling — Mike and Tia fitted in a 2025 repair quickly
- Small orders — a basement turf piece delivered inside a week in 2025

**Concerns:**
- Unexplained complaint — a 2024 one-star called the company extremely unprofessional
- Business age — the site says ten years, BBB records a 2012 incorporation

**Where sources disagree:**
- The company's site says ten years in business while BBB records the LLC as incorporated on 26 March 2012, which would make it fourteen.
- A carrier directory lists a Turf Prep at 171 Swanton St, Winchester with phone 781-460-4374, rather than the Woburn address and number this business publishes.
