## The honest read

Finished basements run through the history of Ultimate Construction, a Marlborough remodeler run by Stephen Zindle, who says on Houzz that he has worked in Greater Boston since 1990. The company lists additions, kitchen and bath remodels, basement build-outs and sunrooms.

Its Angi reviews run from 2010 to 2017. In a July 2010 review, a customer described Stephen arriving with his plumber, electrician and plasterer to scope a basement finish before presenting a proposal. A September 2011 reviewer said the job came in exactly on budget, matched a detailed original quote and finished on time, and a January 2014 reviewer said the estimate itemized framing, insulation, plaster, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring and trim. A November 2017 reviewer was happy with a finished basement despite some schedule hiccups, which they put down mostly to subcontractors and suppliers.

In an August 2024 Houzz review, a customer who hired Stephen's team to level a floor, install a balcony and build an in-wall cabinet gave 2 stars. The floor and balcony work was good, they wrote, but Stephen was hard to get hold of and to schedule, and after drafting plans for the cabinet he never came back, left a hole in the wall and went four months without answering texts, calls or emails. They said he required no deposit, so they lost no money.

**Strengths:**
- Detailed estimates — 2011 and 2014 reviewers described detailed, accurate quotes
- Basement finishing — 2010, 2014 and 2017 reviewers described finished basements

**Concerns:**
- Hard to reach — a 2024 reviewer's cabinet job was left unfinished
