## The honest read

Vilas HardWood Floors LLC refinishes, stains and repairs hardwood floors, and holds a 4.4-star average across 21 Google ratings. Its website offers solid and engineered hardwoods in a variety of colors and styles, and the company says it has been in business 10 years.

A 2023 customer said their 80+ year old floors had been covered with layers of linoleum, tile and carpet, leaving the pine underneath black and sticky. In 2023, that customer wrote that Luis and his team covered doorways with plastic to contain the dust and, in one day, brought the old wide-plank pine floors back to their original state. A 2024 customer described an original maple floor repaired to continue into the kitchen, then refinished and stained in all 4 rooms and the hallway. A 2024 customer said their red oak floors had wear and water damage, and that the company was communicative daily while they had to leave the house for the work. A 2023 customer said their hardwood floors were refinished within 4 days at a price that compared well with other quotes. A 2024 customer who works as a real estate agent with rentals and distressed properties said they had used the company for over 10 years.

A 2024 customer said they spent nearly $20,000 refinishing their floors and that four months later the floors were peeling. In 2024, that customer wrote that the sanding and repairs started out well, but that the stain and poly were applied sloppily and the company did not sand between coats of a water-based polyurethane it had recommended. The 2024 customer said they had asked for help for months and the company had not come to look at the floors.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0631267, held by Vilas Hardwood Floors LLC, as expired.
