J. Masterson Construction is not a home contractor. The Danvers company describes itself as a site and utility outfit — site development, roadway construction, utility installation, environmental services and snow management — with a heavy-equipment rental arm alongside it. A construction trade publication in August 2025 described it in exactly that role, taking on the site work as a subcontractor to the general contractor on a project. Its own site says the company was founded in 1981, puts more than 45 years in the construction industry behind it, and claims over 75 employees and 200 pieces of equipment. The Better Business Bureau profile gives different numbers: 19 years in business starting in 2007, 39 employees, owner John Masterson, and an A+ grade. The BBB also files the firm under "Architect," which matches nothing the company says it does. Almost nothing has come from customers. Google carries three ratings averaging 2.3, and one written review, posted in July 2025, calling the company overpriced, always late and not kind — without describing a job. For work on a house, this is not the sort of contractor to call. If you are weighing it for site or utility work, ask directly for the founding date, the current headcount and references from recent projects, because the published figures do not line up with each other.
