NEI General Contracting builds the kind of housing most general contractors never touch. The company describes itself as a Randolph general contractor and construction manager focused on affordable, senior and historic multifamily housing, working nationally from three regional offices in Massachusetts, Florida and Texas. It says it was founded in 1998 and puts 28 years behind that; its Better Business Bureau file lists incorporation on 2/17/1998, roughly 130 employees, and two locations — Randolph and Ocoee, Florida. The most decision-relevant thing published about them lately is a July 2026 New England Real Estate Journal piece. NEREJ reported NEI had finished converting two long-abandoned Salem school buildings into apartments and community space, most of it income-restricted, and quoted North Shore CDC's senior project manager saying the developer and the new residents were "grateful for the beautiful job that NEI has done with their high quality of work." A client on the record, by name, is a stronger signal than an anonymous star rating. Trade coverage from October 2023 put them on the 72-unit Maple on Franklin in Holbrook. Their own Google page is thinner and pulls hard in both directions: 4 stars from 21 ratings, but only four written accounts. In March 2025 someone wrote "Best to avoid!!!" and described new construction only a few years old already leaving the building with long-term issues to fix. A February 2023 reviewer wrote only "Best to be avoided." Against those, a November 2023 reviewer called the company professional and said it excels at the specifics of affordable housing, and a 2022 one called the crew helpful and polite. On credentials, BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #140623, issued June 2026 — that is BuildZoom's own entry, not anything confirmed against the state registry, so check it yourself. The same profile shows 131 permitted projects. Its BBB page is an A+, not accredited, with no complaints or customer reviews posted. The thing to ask about is durability. It is one voice, dated March 2025, but it is specific about what matters most on a multifamily job — work that needed fixing after people moved in. If you are an owner or developer weighing NEI for affordable or senior housing, ask for references from buildings two or three years past turnover, and verify the Massachusetts registration against the state rather than a directory. If you are a homeowner looking for a remodeler, this is not that kind of company.

“RANDOLPH, MA / ACCESS Newswire / July 7, 2026 / NEI General Contracting, an award-winning general contracting firm, announced today it has expanded its support of Bridge 2 Trades (B2T), a construction-focused career exploration program that prepares underrepresented youth and young adults for careers in the skilled trades.”
