The Better Business Bureau lists it as a one-employee sole proprietorship under the name J. Demarco & Son Landscaping, started in January 2002, with John Demarco as owner and Amy A. Demarco as manager, and gives it an A+ grade without accreditation. The business states on its own Angi profile that it is "Marine Veteran Owned!", and a veteran business directory lists it as Service Disabled Veteran Owned, Marines, retired. The written record is strong and specific but it is old - 22 Angi ratings averaging 4.6, with the newest written account dating from May 2020. What those customers describe is consistent: fast response and a fair quote. A homeowner writing in December 2015 said John "responded within a hour of my posting," viewed the property, "quoted a fair price and had the work done within a week." A May 2016 review described edging, trimming, mulching, planting and cleanup "all completed quickly and professionally," praised the crew for protecting her perennial beds while pulling worn-out shrubs, and noted the yard was left neat after each of several weather-delayed trips. A 2014 customer who interviewed four other contractors wrote that the work was "superior compared to other contractors and a lot cheaper." A May 2020 reviewer credited the owner with suggesting plants for wet areas and privacy screening. Two accounts run the other way and both concern the schedule and the money. In August 2015 a customer wrote that the job "took almost three months," that calls went unreturned after hiring, and that the final charge exceeded the quote; the owner replied on the page that the delay came from the contract taking two months to sign and from added work. In October 2017 a customer gave three stars for good, immediate mulching but was "still waiting for Poison Ivy to be sprayed," and advised paying a deposit and settling the balance only after completion. Two things need checking before you call. The Massachusetts registry shows the company's Home Improvement Contractor licence #193452, held by JOHN DEMARCO, as expired, and BuildZoom - which has no reviews for the business and scores it zero for exactly this reason - notes the state records the licence as at one point cancelled. And an obituary published on 30 April 2025 for John Albert DeMarco III describes him as the proud owner of J. DeMarco Inc.; every detailed review on file names John personally as the man doing and running the work. Confirm who runs the company now and get a current licence number in writing before any work that requires one.
