The Hadley company has been incorporated since 1996, and the work it advertises is commercial grounds maintenance and snow removal rather than residential yard care. Its Better Business Bureau page is the cleanest thing about it — accredited since September 2019 and graded A+. The same page lists a U.S. Department of Transportation registration for the company, which is the bureau's listing rather than anything confirmed against a registry. The third-party writing about Split comes from a courtroom rather than a customer, and it is old. BusinessWest's docket column reported two suits filed against the company in 2015 by other contractors over money: J.L. Raymakers & Sons alleging $11,300 unpaid under a contract, filed that March, and Shea Tree Service alleging $5,555.40 in outstanding invoices, filed that August. A 2019 docket runs the other direction, with Split as the plaintiff against a realty group and its property partnership. These are allegations rather than findings, and every one of them is years old — the written trail on this company runs 2015 to 2019 and stops. This is a commercial outfit first. If you manage a lot, a plaza or an institutional property and need a season of sweeping and plowing, they are set up for exactly that; a homeowner looking for landscape design or lawn care is not the customer their service list describes. Before signing, it is fair to ask how the 2015 payment disputes with their subcontractors were resolved, and for two or three references from properties they have serviced recently.
