About Tavlee

Last updated: August 26, 2026

We're the small, family-founded team behind Tavlee (Tavlee Inc), based in Massachusetts, and this is our directory of home contractors. For a given trade in your area, we gather what's publicly known about each contractor, weigh it into one honest & insightful read, and check every license against the official state registry. It's free for homeowners, and rankings can't be bought.

Why we built this

Hiring a contractor is one of the most expensive decisions a homeowner makes, and the information behind it is scattered and easy to game. Our family learned that firsthand after buying our first house in Massachusetts.

We wanted a local pro to refinish the floors. The independent contractors we found online rarely looked trustworthy, even though they were exactly who we wanted to hire. The big brands quoted numbers that felt like a second down payment. And our friends had bad experiences with every listing site they tried.

So we built the tool we wished we had. Five-star ratings with no words behind them, expired licenses shown as current, a strong pitch at the kitchen table and nothing after it: Tavlee is where that stops, and where clarity about who to trust begins.

Our north star

Show the homeowner the truth, then let them decide. We do not recommend contractors, we do not sell placement, and we do not take payment to change a rating. Search results, ratings, and any insights reflect the evidence — never payment.

How the research works

For every contractor we list:

  • Every source is weighed. We read every review and comment we can find about a business, wherever it was left, and score each one individually across many dimensions before it counts toward anything.
  • The rating is built from that evidence. It is not an average of stars. The math behind it is thoughtfully designed and checked by our staff engineers so that the number reflects how much the record supports trusting the contractor.
  • Licenses are verified at the source. A license badge means we checked the official state registry ourselves, not that the contractor told us they were licensed. The record is linked so you can open it.
  • Every claim shows its receipt. Each point in a profile links to the evidence it came from. You can open it and judge for yourself.
  • Nothing is a one-time verdict. We keep re-checking, and every change that matters is logged on the profile: new comments, a license verified or revoked, and every rating update with the reason behind it.

We assemble each profile from those cited sources with a research lab we built ourselves, then review anything that comes through it, along with every business claim and dispute. We wrote up the full walkthrough in our Support Center: How the research works and Reading a contractor's page.

Get in touch

Questions, corrections, and feedback all go to [email protected]. If you spot something wrong on a profile, tell us. We would rather fix it than defend it.

If the business is yours, you can claim your listing to add photos, set your official name, and request corrections. Our Support Center covers the rest, and our Privacy Policy and Terms spell out how the service works.
