Today Tavlee opens to homeowners across Greater Boston — the city, the North Shore, and the South Shore. Thousands of local contractors across thirteen trades, each researched the same way: everything we can find about a business, gathered, weighed, and cited so you can check it yourself.
Why we built this
Hiring a contractor is one of the most expensive decisions a homeowner makes, and the information behind it is scattered and easy to game. Star ratings live in a dozen places and disagree with each other. License claims go unchecked. And on most directories, the top of the list is for sale.
Tavlee is built on a different premise: the product is the information, and information you can't verify is worth very little. So every contractor profile on Tavlee works like a research file, not an ad.
How the research works
For each contractor, Tavlee:
- Weighs every source. Ratings are synthesized across review platforms and the Better Business Bureau — not copied from any one of them. Recent, substantive complaints count hardest, and a thin track record is discounted so two five-star reviews can't float a business to the top.
- Verifies licenses against the state registry. A license badge on Tavlee means we checked the official Massachusetts registry ourselves — never the contractor's self-report. No match, no badge.
- Cites everything. Every claim in a profile's written read links to the evidence behind it. You can open the receipts.
And one rule holds the whole thing together: rankings can't be bought. Search results, ratings, and the written read reflect the evidence — never payment. Contractors who support Tavlee's pilot appear only in the clearly labeled Spotlight shelf, which never affects rankings, ratings, or a word of any written read.
Where we are today
The pilot covers the Boston metro:
Or jump straight to a trade — plumbers, electricians, roofers, or home inspectors.
Where we go next
Expansion is demand-driven: the areas homeowners ask for are the areas we research next. If Tavlee hasn't reached your town yet, request coverage — leave your email and you'll get exactly one note when contractors there are researched, verified, and listed. It's never a lead form, and contractors never see it.
For contractors
If the business is yours, claim your page — you'll verify your identity, lock your details against automated overwrites, and be able to correct the record. And for the pilot, we're inviting a small group of verified businesses to become founding partners: featured in the Spotlight shelf across Greater Boston, with credits at half price and first access to every business tool we release. What that never buys — from anyone — is a ranking.
Welcome to Tavlee. Open the receipts.
