1-800-GOT-JUNK? Norwalk hauls junk. Its website says it can remove anything two people can carry from a home or business, and names Norwalk, Fairfield, Hartford and Stamford as its service area. A recent customer said removing one large couch cost $700, $300 of it for labor, and advised asking about pricing up front. That recent customer also said the job was fast and convenient. A 2023 customer said Lavar and Felix came right on time to remove an old sectional from the basement and made the pricing very clear up front. A 2023 customer said Terrence and Rob made fast work of a pile of vines, sticks, leaves, a heavy wet rug and wood, and were in and out in under 30 minutes. A 2023 customer said Lavar and Terrence removed a bathroom vanity with sink. A 2023 customer said Nelson and Lavar disassembled a big trampoline and bounce house. A 2025 customer said the two trucks arrived partly full, the estimate came to another $450+, and the trucks left to empty after the local dump had closed for the day. That 2025 customer said they gave up waiting at 4:30, cancelled and booked another company.
Highway robbery. I had one large couch removed and it cost $700, $300 which was for labor costs which is a fixed cost. Then the cost for the couch removal was totally subjective. I would ask about the pricing up front and don’t wait until the guys arrive bc they are polite and professional and seems like you need to negotiate your price right then. They also have a weird thing where they want a 10-star rating as anything less isn’t acceptable. I’ll never use this company again. That said, it was fast and convenient.
Completely disappointing experience. We called earlier in the week to schedule pick up and got a 12:30-2:30 time. We indicated we already had enough to fill 1/2 to 3/4 of a truck but that we'd be adding to what we already had. We were familiar with the process of the estimate when they arrived. The driver called before the start time to indicate they'd be arriving toward the middle of the time. They then called with 15 minutes before the end of range to indicate they'd be there right at the end. Okay. When they arrived they were both very friendly and immediately assured us we'd be getting 5 start service. We went through the estimate and he indicated it looked like we were a full truck and maybe a bit more which was going to cost another $450+. They had brought 2 trucks but one was filled completely and the other looked to be a bit more than half full. Having done this a few times, I was pretty certain we were right at the full truck's worth of stuff and wanted to know for certain that the packing of the truck would be a true measurement rather than what filling a kind of, maybe bit more than half filled truck, would show. - especially with the $450 more. They indicated their plan was to have one driver empty the full truck while the other loaded the half filled truck and then do the rest in the other truck when it returned empty. They were very willing to go dump their existing trucks and return if that was our preference, and indicated they needed to find the closest dump but figured it would be about 30 minutes. We are now at +30 minutes on the original range. I offered up that since it was getting later and that the load was very close to a full truck, that if they just called it 1 truck load split between the 2 trucks as they originally planned we could get going and avoid having to wait for both trucks to return to start filling. They called their dispatcher and I talked with him and there was no interest in that plan. Okay. This is where it goes much worse. They head off to the dump. The local dump is only a few miles away BUT it is Friday and it closes at 3pm which we are past now. Since they indicated they had to find the dump, seemed they didn't realize this. Later we found out they had to go a few towns away (10 miles?) in rush hour. Remember the last we heard was they'd be back in 30 minutes or so. At 4:30 we gave up and called them. The person on the phone was not completely aware of the situation and didn't have any indication of when the crew would be back. We just cancelled and scheduled a morning appointment with Junkluggers. 800 Junk called back a bit later to tell us the issue with the local dump and going to the other town and offered to come back with a discount on the first truck (but again without solving the issue of is this more than 1 truck load). We declined. The next morning - Junkluggers showed up on time with an empty truck, fit it all in 1 truck, and were done in about 45 minutes. The difference in service was pretty stark. On time, prepared, working for the customer to do the most they can to keep the price down. To be clear - the 800 junk crew WERE very nice and we do appreciate that. It felt like the crew that showed up was a bit hamstrung by the planning of the dispatcher but that is just a guess. I get it that things can change and other customers before us might have had more than expected so the trucks were fuller but in the end, the company arrived and was not able to deliver that 5 star service in a timely manner. By comparison, their competition showed exactly how it should be done on every aspect. Hopefully 800 Junk takes this to heart and work on delivering that 5 start service.
