Roof repairs, siding and decks bring customers to A1 Professional, but recent deck complaints describe unresolved construction and communication problems. Based in Claremont, the company says it has served Northern New Hampshire and Vermont since 2015, offering roofing, siding, decks, chimney and masonry work, gutters and painting. Google shows 4.8 stars from 77 ratings. Its BBB grade is B-, with one complaint listed. A September 2026 reviewer described Luis and his crew repairing a roof after a pine tree crushed rafters and standing-seam roofing. The customer said the company worked with them on cost because insurance covered only a small portion of the estimate, arrived as promised and completed work they were pleased with. An August customer described removing a deck, replacing rotted and ant-damaged lumber, installing a membrane roof and putting a Trex deck above it; they said the space stayed dry through heavy downpours. In October, a cottage-siding customer described a slow start followed by repairs, updates and complete cleanup. The October 2026 camper-deck complaint is more serious. The reviewer said the deck was built too high for their slide-out, incorrect railings and lattice were installed, and a post blocked water-heater access. They acknowledged a discount and the later installation of a missing railing section, but said promised corrections remained unresolved five months later. They also described repeated unsuccessful attempts to arrange a return visit and no response to a message left for the owner. A September 2026 deck customer praised the timeliness and quality of construction but said repeated requests for installation dates went unanswered, preventing arrangements for an anxious dog. They also said the bill was almost $1,000 above expectations without prior notice of the added cost. A May 2026 reviewer described delays and lost rental income on a Plymouth, Vermont project, unfinished contracted snow-break installation, and concerns about deck-framing connectors and missing or incorrect fasteners. That customer said the company agreed to review outstanding items after payment disputes and formal demand letters. Other completed work includes chimney rebuilding and gutters. In May 2025, a customer said the chimney crew protected surrounding property with tarps, moved a grill out of the way and cleaned up after rebuilding the stack. An August 2024 customer described seamless gutters installed in a few hours, with downspouts positioned for rainwater collection as requested.
A1 Professional Inc. did a great job. It was a slow start but once they got going the level of work was excellent. They made repairs when needed, kept me informed and completely cleaned up when they were through. They re-sided our backyard cottage within a very tight space.
The communication from this company is by far the worst I’ve ever encountered in my entire life. We hired them to build a deck on our seasonal camper and it was a mess from the very beginning. They never would commit to a day and just showed up one day after the agreed upon completion date. The deck was built too high and our slide out couldn’t clear it. We damaged it trying to slide it out and had to hire someone to jack the camper up temporarily so we could get it out, and then again permanently so we can get it back in. The wrong railings were installed, the wrong latticework was installed after we clearly told them we didn’t want white latticework. One of the railing sections was missing and one of the railing posts blocks our water heater access door so we had a heck of a time trying to open it up for the season. We’ll have a heck of a time closing it for the winter too. This was back in May of 2026. It’s now October and we hired them in February. I was discounted for all the errors and they did come back and install the missing railing section but I was told over and over that everything would still be fixed. I contacted them so many times trying to set something up but always got the runaround. “I’ll get back to you tomorrow” but nobody ever did. I can accept these errors because of the discount but waiting for these guys to honor their word really cost me in the end. The water heater is still blocked. Five months later and we close the camper tomorrow. I also had to remove the stairs when we lifted the camper up and used cinder blocks as stairs to cover the gaping hole in the deck thinking they would come back and fix it. If I knew they never planned on coming back, I could have fixed it myself but now I’m screwed. I told them all this and stated how urgent it was and to please get back to me. My last communication with the gentleman I’ve been talking to for the past 8 months and who I assumed was the owner says, “I’m just the estimator, talk to the owner”. I called the owner and left a message and surprise, Nobody ever called me back. We were very understanding, patient, and flexible We were never rude and tried to work with this company but it’s impossible and the frustration of this project dragging on for 5 months has lead me to write this review. I even waited to the last possible day hoping someone would show up. I feel pretty foolish now. The deck is ok. Not worth the price even with the discount and with all the things I still need to fix, it will probably cost me more in the end. The fact that this has been going on for almost 5 months is just mind blowing. I gave a star to the builders because they worked hard. None of this is their fault. I wish I never hired this company. It’s been such a bad experience and it really put a damper on our first camping season. I’ll deal with all these issues next year I suppose.
Luis and his crew were the best. We had a large pine tree fall on the house and crushed the roof destroying the rafters, standing seam and limbs going through counter tops. He worked with us on the project and cost because the insurance company would only pay a small portion of the estimate. They came when they said they would and did a top notch job. Very happy with quality of the work. Would and will use them again for future work.
Three stars for the timeliness and quality of the work. What lacked a 5-star review was the communication during the project timeline. My husband and I reached out through both phone and email to simply ask for the dates of the installment multiple times. We have an anxious dog and had wanted to arrange to have them off the premises prior to the construction days to prevent damage inside the home. We came home from work one day and half the deck was up (which was great!) but resulted in permanent damage inside the home from the dog. We reached out via email and phone again multiple times to find out when the team would be back to finish the deck and didn’t hear from anyone until the construction team came back in the early evening one day to wrap up the project. It’s not the company’s fault that the pet caused damage inside the home but we would have appreciated better communication to have time to make proper arrangements. Additionally, the project went a little over what was originally included in the estimate. We did not find out until after we received the bill for the project. Not only did we end up paying to repair the damage inside the home that would have been prevented with the courtesy of timely communication, we also paid almost 1k over what we originally expected.
This is a very, very good company. I have a 160 year old house that was built in 4 stages. It has charm but, also some very difficult features that must be maintained. I have a beautiful deck off the back of the second floor. The nearly-flat roof underneath started leaking - badly. I paid someone to repair it and put a new deck on. The first big storm, the roof is leaking. A-1 came in. The took up the deck that was just replaced with care so the new, expensive Trex decking was saved. The took the entire roof down and there was a lot of rot and a huge colony of carpenter ants with damage. After all the previous problems, i felt like this was the last straw. The A-1 crew was unfazed. The powered through it....replaced the rotted and half-eaten lumber and put on a membrane roof and floated a brand new trex deck on top. It looks super and it is tight....we had some monumental downpours and everything is dry. They also scraped and painted the exterior and fixed some areas around the house where there was rot damage. The prep took them longer than the paint. They did the job right. I give this company 5 stars and I am not an easy reviewer. I dont often give 5-star reviews. I have chimneys that need repair and I will be going back to A-1 again.
