Huge natural granite slabs and boulders set on a very steep slope to make a path from a cabin deck down to the shore: that is the job a recent customer described Acadia Landscape + Design taking on. That customer called it a complicated, environmentally sensitive lakefront restoration, named Mike Gillis as designer and project manager, called Leland the Stone Wizard, and said the firm helped protect trees before the cabin went up, so almost none had to be taken down. The same customer called its prices fair. A recent customer said the team worked on a stone walkway, garden beds and drainage, knew which local plants would thrive and resist deer, and completed the project within the expected timeline. For a front-yard natural landscape, a recent customer said Mike met with them several times to go over options, layouts and time frames, and that Leland picked the sizes and shapes of the rocks and placed them. In a 2022 review, a customer said Mike lined up masonry people on a short turnaround to work on the stone floor of a gazebo-type structure for their son's wedding, and that his crew turned the entrance into a garden and also worked on the house beds and up the driveway. The company's website names Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont and Trenton as its service area, and it holds 5 stars from 6 Google ratings.
Such a great experience working with Michael + team! They are very knowledgeable about local plants and what will thrive in this weather and will be deer resistant! They were honest, completed the project within the expected timeline, and were very kind & helpful. We had them work on a stone walkway, garden beds, and drainage.
We wish there were more stars to give - because Mike, Leland, and the Acadia Landscape + Design team deserve all of them. Working with them on our complicated, environmentally sensitive lakefront restoration project was a total pleasure from day one. Mike Gillis is an extraordinary designer and project manager. He listens closely, is thoughtful and creative, and the consummate professional in all interactions. Leland (aka the Stone Wizard) earns his nickname every day. The installation of huge natural granite slabs and boulders on a very steep slope down to the lakefront to provide a natural path from the cabin deck to the shore required artistry, physics, mechanized equipment mastery and (seemingly) a bit of magic. The result is spectacular - the cabin looks as if it were simply dropped onto the shore of the lake with no disturbance at all to the surroundings. The entire crew is top-notch. We especially appreciate the firm's enthusiastic commitment to using, re-using, and when possible preserving the natural gifts of the site - stones, trees, plantings. We asked them to help us protect as many trees on site prior to the construction of the cabin and were so grateful we did, because almost no trees had to be taken down for the construction. Now we enjoy a new cabin that looks and feels as if it's been nestled in the woods for decades. Their prices are extremely fair and the business side of our interactions were always no-nonsense. Plus, they're all just great people. We give the strongest recommendation without any reservations.
The best thing you can do for a client is instill trust in the process. If only words could truly express the gratitude I feel towards Mike and his crew. I had a vision for a front yard natural landscape, a huge undertaking in my mind. Mike met with me several times to discuss options, layouts and time frames. He put me at ease with reassurance and patience. Leland is a master craftsmen when it comes to "rocks". He picked the perfect sizes and shapes and placed them as if he were painting a beautiful picture. Doug and Sean, respectful, personable and professional. I am beyond thrilled with the finished look and highly recommend this team for any project you may need.
I can't say enough good things about Acadia Landscaping. Our son wanted to get married in a gazebo type structure that had seen better days. With a short turn around time, Mike was able to get us masonry people to work on the stone floor, and his crew completely transformed the entrance into a beautiful garden. They also took care to beautify the house beds and up the driveway as well. He and his crew were a joy to work with.
