American Awning & Window Company

American Awning & Window is the family-run shop much of New Bedford's awning conversation runs through — the reviews on file all mention Joe by name, working out custom stationary vinyl or retractable canvas designs in person. The company's own site says it has been serving Southeastern Massachusetts since 1984, and BBB lists the same 42 years along with an A+ rating, though it has not sought BBB accreditation. The written record is short but consistent. A 2025 review describes Joe meeting a homeowner to plan awnings for a 1920s house, working out both a stationary vinyl option for the front and a retractable canvas one for the back, and answering questions promptly throughout. Another 2025 review describes a repeat customer who had Joe and his crew install a second awning after being happy with the first. A third review is an unusual one: a customer who had left a negative review came back to say she had been impatient and wanted to retract it, calling the company's work and talent the best she had found. One thing worth checking directly: the state registry shows the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration has expired. That doesn't erase the 42 years of BBB history or the specific, positive reviews on file, but it's worth asking about before signing a contract. For a custom aluminum or canvas awning, a storm door, or a replacement window job in the New Bedford, Fall River, or Boston area, this is a business with real history and reviewers who name the owner directly — just confirm the registration is current when you call.
