Barry Archung Landscape Design is a Marblehead landscape design practice built around one designer's long career - the company says Archung has more than 50 years in the trade, working everything from multi-acre properties down to intimate backyard gardens, and that he's been featured in two books. The business says it started in Marblehead and has since worked its way down the East Coast, though Marblehead is the only town listed as its current service area. The written record is thin but specific. In a 2014 Houzz review, a homeowner in Marblehead's Old Town described a tricky 1770 property - a tiny pocket yard hemmed in by a parking lot and a neighboring house - and praised the resulting front and back yard design, on-time completion, return visits to nurse ailing plants, and a garden that blooms with low maintenance year-round. A 2021 feature in New England Home magazine described Archung pruning rhododendrons and adding bamboo and a Dutch yew, top-dressed with polished stones, in another client's pocket garden, and a Garden Conservancy write-up credits him with an international plant collection in a stately park setting. An undated bio page from a former apprentice describes ten years spent working under Archung starting in 1999, learning site assessment, hardscape planning and plant selection - a window into the practice's process rather than a customer account. Anyone reaching out should confirm current pricing and availability directly, since the detailed customer account on record dates to 2014; the magazine and conservancy pieces speak more to the design work itself than to what it's like to hire the business today. A solid pick for owners of older or tightly-constrained properties wanting a considered, detail-oriented planting design rather than a quick lawn-care job.

We have an historic home in Old Town located at 33 Franklin Street, Marblehead, MA. Our home was built in 1770. It has a very tiny pocket yard that backs up to a parking lot on one side and a house in extremely close proximity on our other side. The front yard is only a tiny walkway up to one of our front doors. Barry Archung did an outstanding job in his landscape design of both our front and backyards and our small driveway. It is a rare occasion when we are outside and people don't stop and comment on how absolutely beautiful our yard and house are. Visitors to Marblehead are constantly photographing our house as they walk down Franklin Street toward Fort Sewall and the harbor. It is truly Barry's design genius that has made our house the stand out that it is. Barry is very timely in his work. He completed the project when he said he would. He comes back whenever we have a problem with a plant to analyze the situation and remedy it. One of the things we liked best about Barry is that he said he would make sure that there is something blooming and beautiful in every season of the year. He is true to his word and our garden blooms with every season. It is unbelievably low maintenance as well. Not only is Barry a true and honest professional, but he is one of the finest persons you will ever meet.
