Bay State Pest Control has treated homes and businesses around Wakefield since the DiPaolo family incorporated the company in 1997, with owner Dana DiPaolo working in pest and animal control since 1981. The range shows up in the reviews themselves — the same company that clears an ant problem one month is called back for bats, mice, wasps or a termite scare the next, which tracks with a family-run outfit built around general pest control, termite work and wildlife trapping across the North Shore. The reviews lean positive and long-running. One customer who first tried a rival exterminator switched to Bay State for a termite issue and credited technician Dana with talking her through the plan and putting her mind at ease. Another has kept a maintenance contract running for well over a decade, working through ants, bees, mice, fruit flies and bats along the way and naming technician Amy specifically for the encounters. A homeowner in an older Tudor house who was initially wary of the price says she called Bay State back that winter when something started scratching in the chimney, and the crew returned to seal the gap — the kind of follow-through that shows up again in reviews naming Jake, Dale and Cheine for inspections and treatments years apart. Not every account matches that picture. A review posted in February 2026 accuses the company of entering and servicing the property without the owner's consent, calling it trespass. A 2024 review is sharper still, saying a pest job left the underlying problem unresolved while the price ran high. Separately, the Better Business Bureau — which gives the company an A+ letter grade, though it isn't BBB-accredited and says the grade doesn't factor in reviews — hosts one long, undated complaint describing a dispute over a service arrangement tied to an elderly relative's care, including a rat problem the customer says never got addressed. For an ongoing ant, rodent or wasp problem, or a multi-year pest contract, the reviews point to a crew people keep calling back. Given the trespass allegation and the pricing complaints, it's worth confirming in advance who's authorized to be on the property and getting the cost in writing before work starts.

I called Baystate when I found an issue with Termites. I initially called Terminex, but they were unable to come out fast enough for my issue and I remembered that we used Baystate at my work. Dana came out immediately to assess the issue. Naturally, I panicked but both Dana and Dineen put my mind at ease. I was so afraid that my home was going to crumble to the ground. He explained everything to me and was extremely knowledgeable. He came quickly to treat the inside of my home and waiting for the snow to melt and the ground to thaw was like torture but when Dana came out last week I was so thankful. He spent hours at my house treating the outside and explaining to me every detail of what he was doing. He is great at his job and takes pride in his work. Both Dana and Dineen were great through this disgusting experience and the price was great. I am sure if I chose another company I would have been paying much more money and most likely the problem would have not been solved correctly. Dana and Dineen are the best! If you have any kind of extermination issues call Baystate! You will not be disappointed!
Had a great experience. Took care of our bat situation and were friendly and helpful when we followed up needing help a few years later.
This joke for a company trespassed on my property without my consent. Know the difference between someone who is paying the mortgage and someone who is squatting. It happens again I am calling the police. No one has the right to go to my property and service it without my approval as the owner. I am informing every landlord, realtor, yelp, Google, nextdoor....I will pay for a billboard... about what you did.
I have had a pest control maintenance contract with Baystate for well over a decade. When you own a large home, uninvited guests are occasionally inevitable… I’ve had issues with ants, bees, mice, fruit flies and even bats over the years and it’s peace of mind knowing that you’re covered & they are there when you need them:) their techs are knowledgeable, professional, and super friendly every single encounter (Amy has always been one of my fav’s:) . But the real moment of appreciation occurred when I called the owner in an absolute panic last Friday night around 5 PM after I discovered what I thought were termites the night before my first open house. Dineen sprang into action and managed to request from her foreman Jose a special trip on a Friday night after his last call of the day already heading home. Thankfully, it wasn’t termites and it was a quick fix — but Baystate’s commitment to their customers for the absolute most remarkable win! 🙌🏼 not only did they come through when I just really, really ready to cry needed it… but citronella ants fell under my contract:) I would recommend Bay to absolutely anybody that cares to listen to me!
A very unfortunate thing to have to call pest control but feel very fortunate that we were recommended Bay State! We live in an old Tudor home and were dealing with rodents in our walls. We were hesitant at first because of their pricing but they did such an amazing and thorough job patching up many of the entry holes. They even returned in the middle of the winter when we started hearing something scratching in our chimney to nail down the flashing. Have had a very pleasant interaction with their techs both times, I cannot recommend them enough!
