Beta Contracting, run out of New Marlborough by John (Jean Christophe) Rioux, has built a strikingly consistent record — 31 Google reviews since late 2024, all five stars but one four, with the same words recurring: prompt, responsive, honest. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (HIC #212429) is active and registry-verified, and the company works general contracting, bathroom remodels, additions, kitchens, ADUs and small repairs across the Berkshires, New Marlborough and into Sullivan County and the Catskills. The range shows up in the reviews themselves. Several of the standout jobs are full bathroom renovations — one recent review describes a 'tiny, dark, dated' bathroom that became a space that felt more than twice its original size; in a 2024 review, another homeowner had old linoleum and antique flooring redone entirely in a full remodel and called the results beyond what they'd expected. But most of what homeowners hire him for is smaller and more varied: plumbing fixes, electrical work, and the kind of household to-do list jobs people never get around to themselves. In a 2024 review, one homeowner described Beta Contracting solving a locked-door emergency for free, with no damage, after a locksmith couldn't fix it; another reviewer that same year noted he'd turned down a separate job he said he wasn't comfortable taking on. A 2026 Reddit thread recommending Western Mass contractors named Beta Contracting unprompted. For anyone in the Berkshires or the Catskills side of the border with a mixed list — a stuck lock, a dated bathroom, an antenna that needs to come off the roof — Beta Contracting reads like a general contractor built for exactly that kind of list, backed by a verified license and two years of five-star reviews.
“If you're in Western Mass, I've had nothing but good experiences with Beta Contracting.”
From the moment John replied to my online inquiry on a bathroom renovation until today when he installed the final towel bar, this has been nothing but a professional, pleasant and very well executed project. John is very dependable , responsive, accessible, helpful, very transparent and a perfectionist! It’s very difficult to find someone who takes such pride in their work and is honest about things. We definitely had some unplanned things come up as the bathroom was done 65 years ago. My Dad built this house and I have no doubt that John painstakingly worked as he did. He offered solutions when things surprised him and tirelessly worked through ideas with me many times over! (MANY) He always heard me out and found a way to make it work out even better, never sacrificing quality. I think we did a great job! (He way more than me 😉) The bathroom exceeded my hopes. It’s beautiful and I hope the pictures show enough of an idea to see the transformation John made. The tile work is beautifully done. I will not hesitate to use John for the next round of ideas and changes I’m looking to make to this special home. Thank you so much! You’ll be back!!!
Working with John from Beta was a pleasure. Somehow he worked magic and made our tiny, dark, dated, cramped bathroom into a light-filled space that felt more than twice its original size. (check out the before shots, ugh!). John is a miracle worker. Communication was great through every step of the process. He also was very cognizant of our budget and worked with us.
We recently hired John Rioux, owner of Beta Contracting, to remodel an old, dated bathroom at our lake house. Not only did John do an absolutely fantastic job, but he was enthusiastic, punctual and extremely responsive from start to finish. He kept us informed throughout every step of the project, because we were not on site for most of it. He did this through phone calls, texts, photos and videos and kept us well informed about everything. Our place is an old house, so some minor issues were uncovered along the way, and instead of John covering them back up as many contractors would do, we discussed the issues, came up with a plan we both agreed upon, and John made sure to fix them as well as possible to avoid potential problems down the road. John is a true professional with great vision of the project and a master of many trades. He is also a perfectionist and goes the extra distance to complete everything 100% flawlessly. I found his pricing to be fair and transparent. I highly recommend John and Beta Contracting for your next project. We would certainly use him again.
They did a fantastic job. High level of attention to detail. Easy to work with. Coordinated the ordered of all materials; tiles, vanity, faucets, lighting. Went above and beyond making sure that electrical and plumbing connections were sound and walls were square. Very reasonably priced and payment schedule
John did a wonderful job on laundry room. He communicates well and is transparent with pricing. He considers esthetics and function. He has done several other jobs for me building steps outside and outdoor address fixture. I highly recommend him!
