Across a decade of written accounts, the praise for Carpenter Costin lands on the same thing — the climbing and the cutting — and so do the complaints, but from the other side: what happened around the job. The good version is specific. In a June 2015 review a customer described watching the crew work the very tall trees in their yard and stay careful around a fence. In August 2014 another credited landscape architect Shane Mahoney and a construction crew with stonework that came out better than expected, two problems corrected on the spot, and no request for more money. A September 2020 homeowner had trees that were touching the house down within two days when other companies were quoting a month out. Then there is the other column. A December 2017 customer said they had paid for three trees removed, all stumps ground and all wood hauled, and three weeks later one tree was still standing and no stump work had been done; they were offered a $300 refund instead of a finished job. A June 2018 customer said a tree job was poorly executed and that two months of promises to come back and fix it produced nothing. In August 2020 a homeowner watched a crew member drive the last nine-foot section of trunk into their gate and fence, and had to go out with a rake before the back yard got cleaned at all. Between those poles runs a steady, milder version of the same theme: the work happens, the coordination around it slips. That same September 2020 crew simply showed up rather than calling first. A September 2014 review liked the price and flagged a schedule change nobody phoned about plus sawdust left behind. An August 2014 birch job started four hours late. A December 2011 customer waited an extra week for wood to leave the front lawn. Its BBB page is an A+, and the trade is squarely what the company is built around: tree services, plant care, grounds management, disease and insect work, pruning and removal, turf. Weigh one thing above all — the written history stops in May 2021. Treat the older accounts as background, ask for recent local references, and get the schedule, the cleanup standard and the stump work written into the quote, because that is exactly where the complaints cluster.
Excellent job and done at a very reasonable price.
Had trees that were touching house removed within two days. I was told someone from the office would call me to schedule a time but they just showed up and took down the trees. Other companies were a month out.
This company did an excellent job removing a large tree from my yard, as well as, trimming back large bushes. All workers were very professional. I would hire them again!
I hired them to cut down three trees and trim several large branches from two others. The cutting went well enough until one of their guys used the last 9 ft. section of the trunk as a battering ram on my gate and fence because he was too lazy to have a colleague guide the trunk through. (I watched this from a window and took pictures of the damage). I had to replace a piece of trim and one of the post caps. I still need to use filler on the gouges in the wood. Cleanup was OK for the front yard trees but in the back yard they made no attempt to clean the numerous pieces of wood under two inches in diameter and several branches until I went out with a rake and shamed them into it, and they still left quite a bit. I contacted their supervisor by email and he promised to send a couple of guys to clean up, which never materialized.
Professional knowledgeable courteous exceptional. Would recommend this company to anyone in a heartbeat.
