Casella's transfer station in Old Town is, in the company's own words, a drop-off point where materials are collected, consolidated and transported out for processing or disposal. The company reports 50 years in business and lists a service area that includes Bangor, Brewer, Belfast and Bucksport. A recent Google reviewer says the company has never once answered the phone, an email or an online request, and that their residential dumpster has not been picked up in over a month. A 2025 customer wrote that they showed up whatever time they felt like and picked and chose what was okay to pick up from one week to the next. A 2024 customer said their trash had been taken twice in three and a half months, and that calls to have a note made for the truck never led to a pickup. A 2024 reviewer said they could not get their recycling picked up and had to pack their car and drive it there themselves. A 2023 customer said they kept forgetting to dump barrels and left them half full. A 2024 customer called a $12.50 charge to dispose of an old rusted propane grill highway robbery. A 2026 customer complained about buying overpriced plastic bags for trash. A 2025 reviewer objected to a very loud horn blown near their house every week at pickup. A 2023 Google reviewer said the employees at the transfer station were very helpful.
