CT Deck Pros describes itself on Houzz as an outdoor living space designer and builder working in Fairfield and New Haven Counties in Connecticut, building decks, patios, fire pits and outdoor kitchens. On Angi it calls itself a design-build firm for additions, renovations and outdoor living spaces. A 2014 customer said the company replaced an old concrete slab with a new full front porch and made design suggestions the customer went with. A 2015 customer said neighbors had been complimenting the new front porch. A 2014 customer called the job on time and clean and praised the design work. A 2016 customer said a deck and patio job was barely 50% complete after 7 weeks, against a contract that stated 15 days, with over 75% already paid. That customer said John DeRosa never picked up calls to the office and that they had filed a complaint with the BBB. A 2015 customer said workers arrived around 7 am with no dumpster and no materials, which came after about an hour of demolition, then did not show up for the next few days; that customer said a job that should have taken 3-4 days took 3 weeks. A 2014 customer said a porch started before Memorial Day was finished on June 26th, delayed partly by the inspection and partly by a subcontractor, and another subcontractor finished the job.
Our experience for the last 7 weeks with CT Deck Pros has been a nightmare. My wife and I hired them to redo our deck and patio. After 7 weeks of on and off again work, a way overdue completion date, and false promises, we are still barely at 50% project completion. The contract states 15 days for completion. We have already paid over 75%. We have had three other major renovations in the past that required multiple trades. We can tell you from experience that this project has been extremely poorly managed. John DeRosa never picks up calls to the office. When someone does pick up the phone, their response was always John is not available to speak at the moment. As time progressed, the only time we had any sort of communication with John was when he asked for more money to pay for materials despite not meeting the completion phases as stated in the contract. Tony Marini who is the Chief Operating Officer was rarely onsite to make sure work was progressing or done properly. We can go on and on in details about what a nightmare hiring CT Deck Pros has become and still is. We have currently filed a complaint to BBB with full details. As of today, nobody has shown up onsite to continue the work for close to two weeks. We can count on another week (8 weeks total and counting) of an ongoing project that is nowhere close to being completed. My wife and I hear about horrible general contractor experiences, and now we are living it.
They lack communication and professionalism. When the workers arrived at the house there was no forewarning of them coming. So workers got there around 7 am with no dumpster and no materials to build the deck. It took them about an hour to demo the deck and shortly after the dumpster and supplies did arrive. Things went good for the rest of that day and the next. Then for the next few days the didn't show up, despite telling me the day before that they would show up. When they showed up again instead of 5 workers there would be one or two workers that didn't know what needed to be completed so they would leave things undone and when I asked about it they would tell me "I wasn't told to do that." After a while they came for the final payment, even though a quick look suggests that they weren't near done. There was trimming that still wasn't done, garbage and extra materials laying around, plus a crooked post holding up the deck. We discussed things and they agreed to fix all the flaws I pointed out and actually clean up when they were done. I did another inspection when they said everything was done and everything was addressed . A few more things I feel I should mention. The workers went into the garage and took tools to use without returning them at the end of the day. I noticed this a couple days in when I was looking for a shovel and had to look under a tarp to find it. Also, they didn't put trim around all the postings underneath like it said in the contract. This was because they poured footings without saying anything until after they poured them. They said it cost $400 to pour a little bit of cement. To get the deck done and them to finally leave, we made an out of contract agreement to not wrap to of the posts that were suppose to be wrapped. So what should have taken 3-4 day turned into a 3 week nightmare.
Work professionally done, and our neighbors have been complementing us on our new front porch.Linné Z.
They are very courteous and very fast. Their work is impeccable.
The porch was perfect, we are very happy with it. They made suggestions as to the design which we liked very much so we went with it. I don't see a lot of full front porches on raised ranches but as an ex-Southerner, porches are a must-have. The porch we had on our house was nothing more than an old concrete slab so that had to go first, which they handled, and voila, new porch! Very happy with the way it turned out. Wonderful people to work with!
