Sixty permits, three reviews. That gap is the first thing to understand about Fisher & Rocha — a Mattapoisett general contractor whose work turns up in town permit files far more often than it does online. The company traces itself to 1965, when, by its own account, carpenter Bruce E. Rocha, Sr. and financier Henry G. Fisher joined forces to build houses; Fisher retired in 1975 and the Rocha family carried on. Its site says Bruce E. Rocha, Jr. is now president and runs construction at what it calls a second-generation family business, covering Mattapoisett, Fairhaven, Rochester, Acushnet, Wareham, Marion, South Dartmouth and Padanaram. The BBB has its file open back to 1965 as well, grades it A+, and lists 24 employees, though the company is not BBB accredited. The permit trail is where the substance is. BuildZoom counts 60 permitted projects, 14 of them in the past three years, with a typical value near $20,000 — mostly siding, trim, and window and door work in Mattapoisett, plus jobs in Wareham and Buzzards Bay. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and held in the company's own name rather than an individual's. What customers have written is thin and split. Three Google ratings average 3.7. Two are short and warm — a June 2025 reviewer said Bruce was a pleasure to work with and called the finished work incredible — but a May 2025 one-star review is specific and serious: the reviewer says they hired Bruce to look at where to perc on family land, were told a soil specialist was needed and paid him directly, and after a roughly twenty-minute visit were told the land would not pass, then were pointed toward land the reviewer says Bruce had for sale in town. That is one customer's account, but it is recent, concrete, and the thing to raise before any money moves. Two smaller things to ask about. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts plumbing business registration for the company as inactive, and lists two construction supervisor licence numbers — confirm those directly with the state if a structural job depends on them. For siding, trim, or window and door work in the Tri-Town area, this is a long-established local outfit with a real, checkable permit history behind it. For anything involving land, perc testing, or buying a lot, get the scope, the payees, and every dollar in writing first.
“They will partner with Grieco Ford, Alden Buick GMC, Mastria Buick GMC, Toyota of Dartmouth, Rt. 44 Toyota, Hotte Construction, Couto Construction, Inc., and Fisher & Rocha, Inc.”
“The Twins were installed recently with the help of Fisher & Rocha, Inc. The construction crew had to remove the back doors in order for The Twins to fit.”
““There’s a lot of history in that bell,” as Bruce Rocha of Fisher & Rocha, Inc., contractor for the church renovations, put it.”
Bruce was a pleasure to work with and the work is incredible. Highly recommended.
Scam artist. Watch out !! We were planning on building a home on family land. Hired Bruce to come out and look where to perc. “He had to bring in a soil specialist” (a buddy) pay him cash or check made out to him. A guy pulls up in a beat up truck, they hang out for 20 minutes then says it won’t pass perc but Bruce has land in town I can buy from him for a great price.
