A recent Google customer said the electricians were excellent, yet paid $272 for a visit where no real work was performed and changed 8 outlets themselves rather than pay $250 per receptacle. A recent customer handling a job from out of town wrote that a GEM electrician made their part as easy as possible and thanked Jake. A recent HomeAdvisor customer said they spent half an hour on a leak-detection call, repeated what the customer had already told them, and charged $575. Gem Electric carries an A- grade on the Better Business Bureau, which counts 51 complaints. Google shows 3.7 stars from 6 ratings, and HomeAdvisor and Angi each show 2.7 stars from 25. The work runs well past wiring. A 2024 HomeAdvisor customer wrote that Nick and Brian from the drain service team spent more than four hours clearing roots from the pipes at their home in West Warwick, RI, used a camera to check the pipes, and cleaned up after themselves. A 2025 HomeAdvisor customer said Steve and Diego showed up on time to fix their system, explained every step of the repair, and that the price was right. A 2024 Google customer wrote that Alecs Reyes and apprentice Marcos Mendoza did HVAC work at their property and were on time. A 2024 Google customer asked about a standby generator, got a quote from Adam, and said Tanya in the office followed up through the process. Price and follow-through are where things went wrong. A 2025 HomeAdvisor customer said a Sunday emergency call for a pinhole leak in a shower body, promised for 12-4pm, was not reached until 10:31pm, and the bill was $957 with the same pipe reused. A 2025 HomeAdvisor customer said an $800 faucet install lost water pressure twice, and that a rude tech on the second return demanded the $149 service call fee. A 2025 HomeAdvisor customer was quoted $312 per pound for R-410A refrigerant on a mini split. A 2025 HomeAdvisor customer said a system that did not qualify for a rebate had to be removed and reinstalled, followed by many service calls. A 2024 HomeAdvisor customer said a different plumber told them GEM never put in an expansion tank with a new water heater. A 2024 HomeAdvisor customer wrote that Ryan sold them a boiler on the promise of a $500 RI Energy rebate, which the boiler did not qualify for.
The electricians were excellent. The company itself is another story. The techs did little to no work. We discussed a plan and no real work was performed. Gem is the biggest ripoff in the business. I would never recommend them to anybody. Don't fall for their tricks. They say they will waive the "SERVICE FEE " but then they charge you outrageous prices. I payed $272.00 for No actual working . Just a conversation. And I changed 8 outlets myself because they charge $250.00 each receptical. Don't Call Gem.
It’s not easy doing a job out of town. GEM electrician made there part easy as possible. Thanks Jake!!
lol. Leak detection they claim. I call them. I tell them the area. They spend half hour. Tell me what I told them. $575. lol. Horrible
If I could give them less than a ZERO I would!! Called to take advantage of a rebate and financing. They gave me a non qualifying system and the wrong financing. They wouldn't call me back until I got the manufacturer and a company that oversees these issue. They finally had to remove and reinstall the correct qualifying system. When that was done, they couldn't get it to work properly. Many technicians and MANY service calls later, (as well time out of work) they finally got someone that straightened out most of the problems. They also promised to help with the rebate and did not do that either. They recommended a company for an additional $1000.00 over the proposed price that caused other problem. Bottom Line is if anyone had the issues we had, you would NEVER use them!! Oh...and they gave us financing for the wrong term, and we had to pay it off 4 months earlier or lose the 0% financing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, I WISH I DID.
highway robbery is the best way to describe this company! Now if you have so much money that you don't care about throwing it away by all means use this despicable company. My boyfriend was a plumber for 20 years, but is recovering from back surgery and was unable to do the repair himself. We had a pinhole leak in the shower body and we called for an emergency call out on a Sunday. We were told someone would be here between 12-4pm...at 10:31pm someone finally showed up to fix what was now a larger leak and completely soaking the walls down to the basement and the into the linen closet. The job should cost max $600 (this would be is it ended up being harder than anticipated). We literally had the access panel open for them and made it as easy for them as possible and they charge $957! They didn't even change anything, they used the same exact pipe! My elderly aunt who lives at the home was totally taken for a ride. It's a disgusting sin what this company charges people!
