GreenOp is a Milton, Massachusetts landscaping company built on repeat relationships — a South Boston condo association says it has used the crew for the past eight years, and another customer, writing in a review from late 2025, says they've worked with the team for over a decade, since before it was even called GreenOp. Josh Johnson started the business in 2012 as J n J Yard Work with a single lawn mower and expanded it into GreenOp while a student at Babson College; the company says it now covers Greater Boston towns from Belmont to Jamaica Plain. Google puts the average at 4.8 stars across 95 ratings, and the specifics keep landing on real projects rather than vague praise. A recent review describes GreenOp recycling bricks from a back garden to rework a poorly-cemented front entry, and another from this summer credits the crew with a full backyard rebuild — new lawn, playground area, edging and mulch. In a review from late 2025, one homeowner said a short retaining wall exceeded what they expected. Condo boards and property managers show up often in the reviews, and the same staff names — Josh, Chris, Kristin — repeat across them, suggesting a consistent crew rather than rotating subcontractors. The team also owns up to mistakes: one customer said Josh replaced a sod delivery he wasn't happy with at no extra charge, and the staff includes a Certified Landscape Designer and an I.S.A. Certified Arborist. A few older reviews are worth asking about. In a November 2025 review, one customer said GreenOp left downspout work unfinished and stopped responding to more than a dozen texts and voicemails. A September 2025 review describes a crew weed-whacking flowers a customer's daughters were growing in visible pots, with an attitude to match. And in a 2023 review, another customer described being ignored for days while trying to book new work. None of these show up in the last six months of reviews, which are uniformly positive, but they're specific complaints about follow-through worth raising before you sign anything. GreenOp reads like the right call for an ongoing relationship — a condo association's grounds, a hardscape project, seasonal maintenance — more than a same-day fix. Get the scope and any add-on work, like downspouts tacked onto a lawn job, spelled out before the crew starts.
After meeting with a few local landscapers, we decided to hire GreenOp to install new hardscaping in our small garden space. When we first met with Josh, he suggested that we could also recycle the bricks from our back garden, to renovate the front entry way, giving us a more polished look in the front of our home, and allowing for better drainage. His team was incredible to work with. They new back garden exceeded our expectations, and the front looks amazing. The recycled brick out front replaced red flagstone that was poorly cemented in place, and the brick now looks like it always belonged there. Josh was easy to communicate with, offered great advice through out the planning, and his team really did a fantastic job on the installation. We couldn't be happier!
We saw the GreenOp yard sign in Charlestown on a beautiful pollinator garden. We called and Josh came by to speak with us and give us some ideas of what wanted for our backyard. From start to finish, Josh was present, highly knowledgeable and clear about what his team could achieve in our yard. We told him our budget and he built a project that respected that figure wholeheartedly - no extra charges for other things that were not requested. This is such a huge asset. He was flexible to adjust the budget as we settled into our vision. The team completed the project in a week as estimated. They were thoughtful, organized and executed on the job perfectly, cleaning up the work site daily and being very considerate throughout. Josh was once again attentive, did final touch points to ensure 5-star work and a 5-star experience. No hesitation on recommending GreenOp for your landscaping work. Well-earned reputation for excellence!
They did a great job with our yard when they cleaned it up in the Spring and in the sod that they laid down this Summer.
We had a great experience with GreenOp and are very pleased with the final result. Their team completely transformed our backyard, including the new lawn, playground area, edging, mulch, and other landscaping improvements. The quality of the workmanship and materials was excellent, and the finished yard looks fantastic. The new lawn and playground area in particular made a huge difference and turned the backyard into a space our family can really enjoy. The GreenOp team was professional, thorough, and clearly took pride in delivering a high-quality outcome. We would definitely recommend them to anyone considering a landscaping project.
GreenOp has been fantastic! The crew does a meticulous job mowing and trimming our yard. I have some wild-looking and native plants, and if they aren’t sure about a plant, they ask me before trimming it. They are very thoughtful! I like that it is the same crew typically, so I get to know who is coming and going in our yard. They get to know my yard and me, too. I have used multiple services, and GreenOp is the best so far. I have found the payment schedule to be easy to review, unlike with past experiences. I found their prices to be reasonable, too. Requests for service are easy to make. Our yard looks beautiful and well-maintained. I highly recommend GreenOp.
