- Promised rental refund — a 2023 reviewer said the partial refund was not sent
Harkins Development Co. says on its Houzz profile that it is committed to creating "unique homes throughout New England." Houzz lists custom homes, new home construction, development, spec work and subdivisions among its services, and shows 9 of its projects. A 2023 Google reviewer wrote about renting a home owned by Chris Harkins through VRBO for a family vacation, and said the A/C system was not working and there was an ant infestation in the kitchen. That 2023 reviewer said Chris agreed to refund a portion of the cost, and that after multiple weeks of trying to reach him the promised refund had not been sent.

I rented a home owned by Chris Harkins via VRBO for a family vacation. Unfortunately the home was not as advertised. Both critical issues (ie; A/C system not working, plus an ANT infestation in the kitchen) and overall condition/cleanliness left much to be desired. Although we could not get a hold of Chris during the stay (multiple attempts made) I finally spoke with Chris on the experience & provided him pictures/detail on the issues we had with his rental property. He acknowledged that it was subpar & therefor agreed to refund me a portion of our outlay... THEN HE DISAPPEARED. I have tried for multiple weeks now (between text/call/email) -- and he has totally dodged us - failing to send the promised refund. Given the other review here - perhaps this is common place for Chris? Perhaps it's how Harkins Development does business? Your call to make - but I would strongly suggest - buyer beware / stay away. The quality of product (pics) & service (failure of promise) that Harkins delivers is very poor in my experience.
