Heritage Slating describes itself as a slate roofing company for Northern Vermont homes, covering installation, replacement, repair and maintenance with a 1-year workmanship warranty. Its website lists Burlington, South Burlington, Winooski, Williston and Lowell as its service area. A recent Google customer said Heritage came, looked and estimated, and the finished job came to half the cost of the estimate. A recent customer got a quote right away for slate roof repair and said the work was done when they said it would be. A recent reviewer who called the job a logistical nightmare said it was still completed on time; that customer said possible hidden costs were discussed beforehand and that he kept them updated with pictures and phone calls while they were off site. The work is not only roofs. A recent customer said Bill and his crew did a complete interior renovation at their place in Jay, including a hardwood floor, a bathroom renovation, tile and a complete paint job. In a 2024 review, a customer said Bill and his team installed a cupola on their roof, a job that customer called very technical, and came when they said they would. In a March 2026 r/vermont thread, a commenter said they would not recommend Heritage Slate out of Lowell, writing that it did a hack job on their roof that took almost two months.
“I would not recommend Heritage Slate out of Lowell. Did a hack job on my roof, took almost two months and we were finding new screws they dropped in the grass for months.”
“WRCC student workers and volunteers were able to assist Bill Williams, of Heritage Slating is Wolcott, on the roof project.”
Personable and professional, Premium Craftsmanship, I got the quality work at a fair price. Showed up when he said he was going to show up for his first look at the job . The job was a logistical nightmare And they still completed their work on time. Bill always answers the phone and or gets back to me. Most importantly he said what he meant and he did what he said. Discussed possible hidden costs beforehand. Didn’t nickel and dime you with a bunch of extras as they were doing the job. He kept me updated with pictures and phone calls as the job was in progress as I was off site for most of the time. Would I hire them again? most definitely. Pete Northfield
Heritage Slate is a fantastic company. The workmanship is excellent. They do a wonderful job taking care of our slate roof. Quality work at a fair price. They show up when they say they will. Good communication. The top it off, they are just good people. Thank you Bill and Liam.
Bill and his crew did a complete interior renovation for us at our place in Jay (hardwood floor, complete bathroom renovation, tile, complete paint job). Very professional, very communicative, and great to work with. Highly recommend.
Responsive and responsible. They got me a reasonable quote right away for slate roof repair and got the work done when they said they would.
It’s hard to find a good roofer and harder to find someone who actually seems to care. Heritage came, looked, estimated, and when it was all done it was half the cost of the estimate. Their commitment to on going maintenance is refreshing and I look forward to putting this roof old slate roof back together with them.
