HomeHarvest says it has designed and built edible landscapes in Greater Boston since Ben Barkan started the business in 2008. The Arlington-based company works on edible gardens, raised beds, fruit trees, greenhouses, stonework, and landscape construction; its website names Barkan as owner and describes design, installation, planting, and ongoing maintenance. Customers writing on Houzz between 2017 and 2020 describe gardens they continued to enjoy and tend. In a 2020 review, one homeowner said HomeHarvest planted about 22 trees and described caring for them as life-changing; another that year said the company had planted their raised beds for years. A 2019 reviewer praised an 8-by-8-foot raised bed that supplied kale through the summer. In 2017, a customer described a 5,000-square-foot garden with fruit trees, berries, vegetables, a greenhouse, chicken coop, patio, and perennial flowers, and said HomeHarvest incorporated the requested features. These are specific accounts, though they are several years old. A 2021 article quoted Barkan describing HomeHarvest as focused on edible landscapes and construction rather than lawn mowing, and a 2019 profile located the business in Boston. The company also says its projects are customized to fit each landscape. At a consultation, ask Barkan to confirm the proposed design, construction materials, schedule, and maintenance plan for your property. HomeHarvest may suit homeowners looking to make a garden or productive outdoor space part of a broader landscape project. Its published service area includes Arlington and Greater Boston; confirm that your address is covered and review the scope before booking.

““We are a landscaping company, but we do not own a lawn mower. We do not even own a single weed wacker,” says Ben Barkan, owner of HomeHarvest, an edible landscape and construction company in Massachusetts.”
“Ben Barkan, an edible landscaper who started HomeHarvest LLC 10 years ago in Boston, has also seen the difference.”
“Ben Barkan, an edible landscaper who started HomeHarvest LLC 10 years ago in Boston, has also seen the difference. “Not a lot of people were used to the idea of replacing parts of their lawn or ornamental landscapes with edible landscapes,” Barkan says about the first years of his business. Now, he says, there is more interest and his business has grown a lot.”
“The implementation of the H.E.R.O. Hope Garden on Geneva Avenue was initiated by Speak for the Trees and several local nonprofit groups, including Farmers Collaborative, Boston Food Forest, H.E.R.O. Nurturing Center and HomeHarvest.”
Home Harvest is truly a revolutionary and extraordinary company. They take your average traditional landscape and transform it into something beautiful, functional and unique. They planted about 22 trees in my yard and it has been a life changing experience caring for them and watching them grow. To be specific they planted Apricots, peaches, Tart cherries, Apples, Asian pears, Persimmons and Paw Paws. I never even heard of Paw Paws, Asian pears or Persimmons till they recommended them to us. It is our second year with the trees in the ground and they are doing exceptionally well, they are growing fast! Home Harvest also installed a nice blueberry patch with many varieties and black berries and Raspberries, also strawberries under the fruit trees. All the berries have been absolutely delicious. We have not yet tried any fruit trees fruits but it looks like we will in the fall. I honestly am not sure why anybody would not hire home harvest. My perspective of the world has changed since they transformed our landscape and now when I see other peoples "traditional" yards, they look barren, and like they are missing something. I wish everybody in my neighbourhood would hire them, it would make this community so much more exciting, lively and healthy. Imagine if everybody had edible landscapes! Imagine fruit trees all over the place! Do the world a favor and consider the edible landscape! It is fun for kids, for guest, your own self, and local biodiversity! (also I think they do non edible landscapes too, if you like).
Excellent! Home harvest has planted my raised beds for years and done such a wonderful job. My vegetables get bigger and happier every year. Thank you!!!!
The grow the best kale in all of the land. ALL OF THE LAND! !!!! Loved harvesting kale all summer long from my raised bed. Only 8 ft by 8 ft fed me all summer, it was incredible.
We worked with Home Harvest to make a 5,000 square foot garden with fruit trees, berries, vegetables, greenhouse, chicken coop, patio and perennial flowers. Our garden is spectacular and our greatest joy. Home Harvest did a fantastic job incorporating all of our desires into the design of our space. We couldn't be happier with Home Harvest's work and the outcome of our garden. Now that it is spring and life is returning, we are thrilled again to be able to work and play in this beautiful space. Home Harvest once again.
