Angi's profile puts prices on two of them — $29,800 for the driveway, $5,000 for the patio and walkway. Hurst Landscape & Site Services runs out of 24 Idaho Street in Mattapan under owner David Hurst, and the company counts more than 25 years working across Boston and Greater Boston, for homeowners on one side and general contractors, non-profits, urban garden associations and municipal clients on the other.
What those homeowners describe is crew discipline. One April 2026 customer hired them for a permeable paver patio, a light pole and base, a stone wall and resurfaced concrete stairs, and wrote that the crew worked steady and carefully and was respectful of the property. Another, the same month, had a two-tiered retaining wall with planting, stairs and irrigation, and noted they kept the area clean and were considerate of the neighbor. In a March 2026 review, a homeowner on their first major renovation singled out Al L. for asking thoughtful questions others didn't and making sure they understood the process — not the cheapest, they wrote, but worth it. A second March 2026 review describes being walked through the materials and installation for a patio built to last, then given a reasonable estimate and a start date.
The residential hardscape is only half of it. Procore lists the company on 45 construction projects, 14 of them active, as a landscaping specialty contractor across commercial, institutional and residential work, on jobs averaging about $12.8 million. Historic Boston wrote in 2017 about bringing in the Mattapan contractor to turn a parcel into a 21st-century urban farm, and a 2020 Commonwealth Beacon article said the company worked throughout the city for private and public institutions and planned to grow to 25 staff at a new location. Its Massachusetts Minority Business Enterprise certification is active into 2029.
Price is the thing to settle early: the one homeowner who raised it said Hurst came in above the cheapest bid and thought the work justified the difference. For a paver patio, a retaining wall, or drainage and sitework you want done once, ask for the estimate broken out by element — base prep, materials, the wall, the planting — and ask what their follow-up visits cover, which a March 2026 reviewer mentioned.
