A broken spring can lead to more than a spring replacement at Independent Garage Doors. In a December 2025 Google review, a customer said Mike also found a cracked hinge and worn roller on a double-wide door, lubricated the moving parts, explained the work and broke down the costs. A May 2026 customer described him repairing a bottom seal and praised both the price and help from Elizabeth in the office. The Worcester company describes itself as a third-generation family business serving Worcester County since 1953. Its website advertises garage door sales, installation and repair, free estimates and insurance. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active under Independent Garage Door Corp. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade; Google lists 4.9 stars from 86 ratings and Angi lists 5 stars from 33 ratings. Repair accounts include explanations of what needed replacing and what could stay. A customer writing in June 2025 said Mike and an associate replaced broken springs and pulleys, then checked a second door. They replaced that door's springs preventatively but serviced its existing pulleys because replacement was unnecessary. The customer described an itemized estimate and a total of about $300 for the service call and parts. In May 2025, another reviewer said technicians addressed additional hardware problems and explained maintenance. When a spring snapped during the work, they returned with new springs in less than an hour. The final invoice exceeded the original estimate, though it was still below what the customer had expected. Older reviews describe installations and follow-up repairs. In August 2023, an Angi customer said Vincent installed a door earlier than expected after a scheduling opening, explained the steps, helped troubleshoot an opener and cleaned the garage before leaving. A May 2021 reviewer described a return visit to adjust sensors at no extra charge after a door began clicking and would not close. There have also been delays. A February 2017 reviewer praised the replacement-door installation but reported a missed appointment and another appointment they had to reschedule. A February 2020 customer described a long wait for doors to arrive, followed by a smooth installation. A December 2018 reviewer said the manufacturer delayed the doors and the office manager kept them updated on scheduling.
“I had Independent Garage Doors come out to give me a estimate and recommendations. I went with exactly what they said to do. The job came out amazing, very professional and they have great sense of humors.. You can tell they take great pride in their work. After the job they even swept inside of my garage.”
Mike came to my home and fixed the bottom seal on my garage door. Did a great job and the price was right. The office admin, Elizabeth was also helpful and top notch. If you need a garage door fixed in any way these are the folks to call. Family business for many years. They do it right. Thank you!
Mike was great. He called me back about servicing my garage door and told me he would be over within an hour to check it out. This was at five o clock in the afternoon. He fixed the door when he came over and the cost was very reasonable. Great service.
Mike replaced a broken spring on my garage door and trouble shot several other small problems that affected the operation of my double wide door. Things I never would have noticed, like a cracked hinge and a worn out roller. He lubricated all the functioning parts and explained everything he did, and showed all the costs broken down. I couldn't be happier with the service he and his assistant provided. The cost was more than reasonable. I almost want my friends to have garage door problems so I can refer this outstanding business to them.
One of the Best Home Service Experiences I Have Had in recent times. When one of our garage door extension springs broke over the weekend, we initially contacted a couple of “highly rated” companies with glowing online reviews—many of which didn’t even have a physical address. The quotes we received were surprisingly high, and something about the process didn’t sit right with us. That’s when we decided to go with a truly local business—Independent Garage Door of Worcester—a company with a real address and their reviews sounded genuine. From the very first phone call, I was impressed. They asked detailed questions about the issue and patiently explained the process and pricing, offering a clear, itemized estimate. Mike (co-owner) and his associate came out the very next day. They were fantastic—professional, friendly, and highly skilled. They replaced the broken springs, the pulleys, and serviced the door and had the door working like new. Not only that, they proactively checked the second garage door, replaced its springs as a preventative measure, and serviced the pulleys (which were still in good shape and they said it didn’t need replacement). The total cost was around $300—including the service call (roughly one hour for two people, 110$) and the replacement parts (two sets of springs and some pulleys). Extremely fair and transparent pricing. This was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had with a home service provider. Mike and his team were honest, took pride in their work, and clearly cared about their reputation. It’s rare to find such genuine, dependable professionals these days—but I’m so glad I found one in Independent Garage Door. I recommend them wholeheartedly!
Excellent, honest, prompt, affordable garage repair services. I had the Independent Garage Doors crew come to inspect and replace some damaged hardware in my door this morning. I ended up being very glad I called a professional rather than try to handle it myself. The technician noticed multiple other issues with my door setup that would have eventually caused problems, and immediately went about fixing them. He explained what he was doing clearly, and educated me on some basic maintenance and other warning signs to look for. When one of my door springs snapped halfway through the work, the technicians handled it gracefully, and were back within less than an hour with brand new ones (that were actually the correct size, unlike the originals). When all was said and done, the technician apologized for going over the original estimate, but despite everything the final invoice still came in significantly under what I had originally expected. I'm just happy to have a garage door I can have a little more confidence in, and a work crew I can trust the next time something goes wrong! Highly recommend this company! Thanks!
