On its BBB profile, IPM Landscapes describes itself as offering landscaping and lawn maintenance (mowing, fertilization, snow plowing and sanding) plus design services, hardscapes, softscapes and gardens. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0673165, is active on the state registry, held by I P M LANDSCAPES LLC. A recent Google customer who has had the company for 2 years says its timing was inconsistent, and that on a day the customer was not home it mowed a front garden area the customer had asked never to be mowed, going over the flowers and an entire 4x4 raised bed. That customer says the owner said he had a new guy and offered a free mow in lieu of fixing the damage. A 2025 customer said IPM left their front and back yard unfinished after weeding, mulching and pruning, and that the approved quote took over a month to get to. When weeds came up less than a week later, that 2025 customer said, the owner told them to use Round Up and called it harmless. A 2024 customer said the pricing was not communicated before the job and that they just showed up and sent a bill. A 2022 customer said that after hiring IPM for bi-weekly lawn mowing in 2021, an IPM crew cut the customer's Rhododendrons down to 4 feet in October without authorization. That 2022 customer said three arborists who examined the shrubs reported improper heading and stub cuts, and that owner James Petrillo was not willing to make amends. A 2022 customer from East Haddam thanked Jim Petrillo and his team for helping reclaim a decorative front yard and said the work was completed in spite of the heat wave. Its BBB grade is C+. The BBB counts one complaint against the company.
Had this company 2 years. In that time they have been inconsistent on when they came, and sometimes would do a great job and others seemingly only do half the work. I didn't complain. Not even when last year halfway through the year they stopped mowing half of my grass driveway that is now all weeds. Last week they came on a day I was not there and mowed a front area of garden that I had asked they never mow. They mowed over not just my garden flowers but an entire 4x4 raised bed. The owner did not seem particularly concerned about the damage caused I'm simply said that he had a new guy. That does not fix the damage. Nor does the free mow he offered in lieu of fixing the problem. All I can say is WOW
We had IPM Landscaping come and do some weeding, mulching and pruning. They left our front and back yard unfinished . The quote we approved of and had to wait over a month to come. The owner even forgot about our Job. They did not finish and do the work we wanted and how we wanted it done. The owner said my wife okayed the work and didn’t want to pay anymore. The invoice was less than the quote however the work was not finished . We had no problem paying the quoted price or more for the work to be done. Less than a week later weeds started coming up, plus they didn’t do the job how we wanted it done. So I spoke to the owner about the weeds and he told me to use Round Up and it got a bad rap and was harmless. I am a chemist for the state. It is not harmless and dangerous.
Beware of this company, the work was average but the pricing was ridiculous and not communicated before doing the job, they just show up and send you a bill. Can not recommend.
IPM did a great job in helping us to reclaim our decorative front yard! They were polite, professional knowledgeable, punctual and completed the work in record time in spite of the heat wave. Thank you Jim Petrillo and his team! Great 5 🌟 job! Sheila A. East Haddam
IPM Landscaping was hired last summer (2021) for bi-weekly lawn mowing. We had spoken on the phone and through email about possible future tree/shrub trimming. Through all conversations we specified our beloved 50 year old, 16 ft, heavily blooming Rhododendrons were not to be trimmed or pruned. We specified “do not to touch them without authorization.” We did authorize two forsythia shrubs to be trimmed, and again our email stated not to trim the Rhododendrons. In October IPM crew cut all the Rhododendrons down to 4 feet without getting any authorization. We had 3 arborists examine the shrubs and reported “Improper heading and stub cuts were made. Improper rejuvenation pruning. Damage to interior structure. Trimmed at the wrong time of year (a severe pruning in the fall removes buds the shrub has set for spring and renders the severed branches vulnerable to freezing temperatures.) Shrubs will have to be reshaped in the spring to try to make corrections which will diminish their size further.” The three certified arborists described the work as appalling, shocking, terrible and horrible. Owner James Petrillo was contacted but he was not willing to make amends or resolve this consumer complaint. Mr Petrillo canceled further ongoing yard service without providing a notice of cancellation. Because of this incident, we can not recommend IPM Landscaping of Haddam CT.
