J.A. Crowdle works at a scale most people don't picture behind the word landscaper. A 2016 piece in Your Arlington put the company at nearly two dozen full-time employees and about $2 million a year, and a business profile lists a fleet of 12 trucks and clients spread through the Route 128 belt. The work runs in two halves — building landscapes and then keeping them — for houses and commercial properties alike. A 2018 write-up described the company as having served the Greater Boston area for over a decade, and its own Houzz blurb says the same. One thing to sort out early: the press coverage places the company in Needham, while its Houzz profile carries a Newton address on Reservoir Street. Ask which yard your crew would come out of and who runs the job day to day. For a property that needs an install and then a season-by-season maintenance contract, an outfit this size can carry both. Get a written scope that separates the construction work from the upkeep, ask for a certificate of insurance, and ask to see two or three properties nearby that they maintain.
