James & Whitney Co. says on its website that it specializes in siding, roofing and gutter installation for homeowners in Maine and New Hampshire. A recent Google customer describes a nine-month redo of 47 condos in four condo association neighborhoods, with new roofs, repairs and replacements to substructures, new siding, windows, skylights, doors and gutters. That customer said Joe showed up early every morning to prep and to tell residents the daily plan, and that the workers cleaned up after each day's work. After a skylight install two years earlier, a recent Google customer could not work out how to change one of the shades, called, and was offered installation of the shade they had bought at no charge. A 2024 customer on Angi said their entire roof was done in one day and that the company cleaned up afterward. A 2024 customer called the company expensive and described a straightforward quote process, work done quickly and on schedule, and a thorough cleanup. In a 2021 review, a customer who woke to a roof leak said Kasey was the first to call back, walked them through putting a tarp over the spot by phone, and came by later that day to check it and assess the roof. That 2021 customer said the new roof came with a fifty-year warranty for parts and labor and was in place within a month. The complaints are serious. A 2025 Google customer whose house was re-sided said shingles started falling off, that the dryer vent was covered over with shingles, and that window trim work left the wooden window frames exposed. In an update to that 2025 review, the customer wrote that seven months on, pieces of siding and J-channel were still falling off and the company had not addressed it. A 2023 customer wrote that the company would not communicate and that "they will fail to get permits, they will fail to schedule inspections."
“Chosen for its resilience in harsh climates, Titan XT was identified as the best shingle for this install, completed by TAMKO Certified Contractor** James & Whitney Co., professionals that are accustomed to the unrelenting weather in Maine.”
“James & Whitney Company, based in Maine and also serving neighboring New Hampshire, marks Omnia’s 11th entrant into its portfolio of brands since the company launched in June 2023.”
Two years after skylights were installed in my home we decided to change one of the shades. We had trouble figuring out how to do so and called and no questions asked they offered to install the shade we purchased at no charge. I was so thankful and they were so helpful.
A pleasure to work with! Robert was a great guy thank you so much for everything!
Great experience, both kind and professional. Would recommend!
The company was hired to do a complete redo of 47 condos over a nine month period. This included new roofs, repairs and replacements to substructures, new siding, new windows, new skylights, and new doors and gutters. A highly complex project requiring expert process management with work done, then reviewed at each stage by an engineer and lead manager, with any revisions made, before resuming forward progress. Doing this in four separate condo association neighborhoods required tactful supervision, which in our case was expertly handled by Joe who showed up early every morning to prep for the day’s work and communicate clearly to residents wanting to know what the daily plan was. All of the workers were courteous and did a great job cleaning thoroughly after each day’s work. Great job done in a complex environment.
I don't even have the words to express how abysmal our experience was with this company. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. We got our entire house re-sided and the shingles have been falling off ever since they finished. They completely covered over our dryer vent with shingles and didn't leave any sort of opening, so we had a bunch of hot, moist air accumulating under the shingles for weeks until our dryer hose inside actually popped off the wall. We notified them immediately, very upset as this could have easily started a fire in our home. Not to mention all of the potential structural damage from the moisture trapped underneath the shingles. We didn't even get so much as an apology, just a "we'll take care of it," and it actually took them about 3 days to even come out and address it. I'm still not even sure if they bothered to inspect the wood underneath the shingles in that area. They were also supposed to replace the trim around our windows and did a super half assed job, leaving the inner wooden frames of our windows totally exposed to the elements. I don't think they were even planning on fixing it until we said something about it, and again this took weeks to get fixed. The workmanship was extremely shoddy and it looks like whoever did this has never sided a house before in their life. We watched a 3-minute YouTube video that explained how to install the product correctly and it was clear that none of the manufacturer recommendations were followed. Nails were driven right through the center of the composite panels in many areas instead of tacking them along the designated holes over the top, and this can apparently cause the siding to buckle as it now cannot expand/contract with the wood based on the weather as it should be able to. We brought this to their attention and were told it was "standard practice," despite the manufacturer explicitly advising against this. We were also not offered any sort of explanation for why this was done or any opportunity to have these errors fixed. Lastly, the work crew was extremely unprofessional. They have been gone for weeks and we are still picking up trash, including rib bones, juice containers, chicken wings, and beer bottle caps, which were carelessly strewn about our lawn along with a ridiculous number of nails. We had a dumpster on our front lawn for about 2 weeks but they couldn't even be bothered to walk over and put their food waste in it. I even complained that a bunch of dudes were here until about 8:30pm one night (several hours after it got pitch dark outside) drinking beers on our lawn. I didn't get any sort of apology and they never cleaned up the bottle caps that I told them were still out there. We raised many concerns to our project manager and several higher-ups along the way, but we are still having issues and there is no end in sight. We are having a home inspector come out and evaluate the work that was done and will likely need to pursue legal action depending on the extent of damage to our home. If you are looking to have a major home improvement project done, run fast away from this company and save yourself the headache. Update: I have notified management yet again of these issues and they had somebody come out to do a full inspection of the property. They are sending a crew out to address the concerning areas and I won't hold my breath, but I do appreciate that they are trying to make it right and will openly give them a chance to redeem themselves. Will update this review again with the outcome... Second update: it's been 7 months and we continue to see pieces of siding and J-channel constantly falling off of our house. The company keeps saying they will address it but they haven't, and even if they do, it is a CONSTANT problem that has no end in sight. If I could afford to have this all ripped off and replaced correctly, I would do it in a heartbeat.
