A homeowner lost power at 5:45 one December evening in 2023, and within the hour a Key Electric employee had dropped off a portable generator and had the house running again. In August 2024 another customer texted Patrick on a Friday night when the generator kicked in but the lights stayed off; he came down at half past seven that evening.
Key Electric works out of Norwell as a certified Generac dealer and full-service electrician across Plymouth and Barnstable Counties, and its Massachusetts electrician licence is active. Its stated service area runs Norwell, Duxbury, Cohasset, Hanover, Kingston, Rockland, Abington, Halifax, Carver, Middleborough, Bourne, Sandwich, Mashpee and Yarmouth. Alongside generators the company lists wiring, panel upgrades, lighting and EV charger installation.
Customers here write about people rather than a company. Patrick is named in more than half the reviews, Bill in several, Marina and Evelyn in others. A number of them followed Patrick to this shop: one met him back in 2015 through a generator service firm that was later sold, and another wrote in June 2024 that they moved with him for the way he diagnoses generators. A February 2025 reviewer said the same of Bill and Pat, who had installed and maintained their unit at the earlier company.
The generator work itself is the specific kind. In February 2025, a unit skipped its weekly test and showed a red light, and the crew came out in a hurry to repair it. That December, another generator threw an error code while every other company was booking a month out — Patrick and Bill were nearby and came the same day. A September 2024 customer had a standby unit installed and was walked through choosing it, where it would sit on the property, and how to live with it. In a March 2026 review, Patrick explained the process and the charges on the phone and Bill turned up on time.
Two things to know. Nearly every written account is about generators; the wiring, lighting and EV charger side appears on the company's own site rather than in customer accounts. And the A+ BBB rating, the Generac, KOHLER, Champion and Briggs & Stratton certifications, and the Diesel Technology qualifications are all the company's own statements.
For a standby or portable generator on the South Shore or toward the Cape — an installation, a yearly service, or a unit that failed its test the week a storm is forecast — this is a shop whose customers ask for a technician by name. Ask for Patrick or Bill when you call, and pin down what the yearly maintenance plan covers before you sign up for it.
