Largess Forestry Inc. says it was founded in 1986 by Matthew “Twig” Largess, and describes itself as dedicated to the preservation, restoration and education of the Earth’s forests. A 2025 Google customer said a huge tree came down on Christmas Eve, with a larger adjacent tree at risk of falling on the house. That 2025 customer wrote that Twig offered to come right over, and that he arrived with two crews and two bucket trucks in the freezing cold, working over two properties and around wires. A 2025 customer hired the company to trim back huge branches from a tree overhanging the residence. That 2025 customer said the cuts were done with the aim to preserve the tree's health, no debris was left lying about, and they reassembled the gate they had taken apart to reach the backyard. The same 2025 customer wrote that they paid far less than they felt they should have. A 2025 customer said the company shaped and trimmed 5 trees in the yard. A 2025 customer had a few large oak trees and one pine cut down, and said Largess had the best price of the multiple quotes received. A 2025 customer said the staff took care of overgrown branches hanging over the house, including a tree beside a power pole that needed to be removed completely, and that the job was finished within a few days of a request made through the website. Local news sites have written about Matthew Largess of Largess Forestry, and one names Peter Largess as the crew foreman. A 2025 Reddit commenter in r/RhodeIsland called Matt Largess a great tree guy.
“Matt Largess at http://www.largessforestry.com/. Crazy person in a good way, and a great tree guy.”
“Matthew Largess of Largess Forestry measures a white oak tree on private property in Richmond that he believes may date back to the pre-Colonial era.”
“His son, Peter Largess, the crew foreman, was up on the bucket attaching the branches and trunk leaders to a crane as the tree was cut down piece by piece.”
“Pete Largess from Largess Forestry reinforces the osprey platform April 15 at the Lawn Avenue ballfields. The platform, 65 feet above the ground, will remain for the nesting season but will be replaced next spring.”
“Matt Largess, the founder of Largess Forestry, has stopped destroying forests in order to save them. He is one of the influential leaders behind Portsmouth’s Oakland Forest & Meadow Preserve.”
Had a huge tree come down on Christmas Eve, with a larger adjacent tree at risk for falling on the house. Twig offered to come right over but I said the day after Christmas was fine. He arrived with two crews and two bucket trucks in the freezing cold to do the job. Worked over two properties and around wires in a highly skilled fashion. I can’t say enough about how good this company is to work with.
Largess Forestry is a highly professional outfit in an industry full of chainsaw happy amateurs. I hired them to trim back huge branches from a tree overhanging my residence. My main concern was hiring someone who would preserve the tree's integrity and not cripple it. The team did an amazing job trimming the tree back. The cuts were done professionally and with the aim to preserve the tree's health. A RI licensed arborist also came to supervise the work. I couldn't even tell they had been on the property when they were finished; there was no debris lying about, and they reassembled the gate which they had taken apart in order to gain access to the backyard. Plus, Largess is very affordable. I feel like I paid far less than what I should have for the professionalism of their craft. If you care about the health of trees, if you want responsible and dedicated arborists, and if you want professionalism and quality, then please hire Largess.
Matt is incredibly knowledgable. His crew is excellent - efficient, skilled, courteous and tidy. They did a really great job shaping and trimming 5 trees in our yard. They look fantastic. I highly recommend Largess.
I highly recommend Largess Forestry. I had a few large oak trees and one pine cut down. They made quick work of the trees, cleaned everything up beyond expectation, and had they had best price of the multiple quotes I received. I would not hesitate to use Largess team again in the future.
These folks were great; I would highly recommend. I had some trees around the house with overgrown branches-- some hanging over the house--that needed pruning (including one tree that was growing alongside a power pole that needed to be removed completely for safety reasons). The staff took care of the issues in an efficient and sensitive manner. They also preserved the trees (I could tell they really care about the trees and their continued viability). And they were fast; the job was finished within a few days after I requested their assistance via their website. This is my second or third experience with this company; always good.
