Lazaro Paving is a three-generation family business in Shirley that says it's been paving driveways since 1963, when Bernard J. Lazaro started out serving the western Boston suburbs; it's now a MassDOT-prequalified contractor doing residential driveways alongside commercial, municipal and state roadway and parking-lot work. BBB has accredited the company since 1998 with an A+ grade, and lists a Massachusetts Department of Public Safety license (HE-131684) for the company, expiring in September 2027. The written record is substantial — 22 reviews since 2021 — and it splits sharply. On the strong side, several detailed accounts describe careful, precise work: one reviewer whose landscaping was seven years established said the crew removed and replaced the driveway without disturbing anything around it and left the site clean; another had Lazaro add a drain to a chronically pooling gravel driveway and reported no water issues since, even through storms. Customers also point to detailed written proposals and proper base prep before paving. On the other side, a July 2026 review describes a 300-foot driveway with two parking areas that has been cracking for ten years, with a second contractor attributing it to improperly prepared base and corner-cutting; the reviewer said calls about it were brushed off as normal asphalt wear. A cluster of 2025 reviews describe unreturned calls and issues that were never actually fixed. And a separate, recurring theme runs through several 2021 to 2025 reviews — mostly written by neighbors and passersby rather than customers — describing job-site trucks blocking driveways and streets, crews yelling obscenities on site, and one account of a worker aggressively pointing a leaf blower at a passing car after being asked to stop blowing debris into the road. Notably, BBB's own profile for the company shows no customer reviews or complaints on file, a sharp contrast with the mixed record on Google. Given how far apart the accounts run, it's worth asking specifically about base preparation and any workmanship warranty on a driveway job, and — if a job is happening nearby — what to expect from the crew's on-site conduct.
“I also had Lazaro Paving quote the project. They came in slightly higher for my job but they were also highly recommended.”
I’m having issues , it’s 300’ long , with two large parking areas . The asphalt has been cracking since it was done. It’s been ten years , I’ve called a few times and they came to look at it but they said these things happen to asphalt . I had another company come over and they said the base wasn’t done properly and the skimped in areas to spread it out more . Lazaro could care less , they got paid . Now they’re gone . I’ve been Sealcoating and filling cracks professionally every three years .Here are some pictures .
Great communication and repaving of driveway. Would definitely recommend.
Great people, careful work, accurate scheduling and estimating. Creative problem solvers.
Terrible. Won’t fix issues, won’t return calls. Stay away from them.
They don't fix the problems they create.
