Magic Billiards & Games is a niche pool table specialist run by Rod, usually working alongside an associate named Mason, and the written record behind it is unusually deep for this kind of business — 46 reviews on Google since 2021, plus 232 more five-star reviews on Thumbtack, where the company reports six years in business serving New England and the Tri-state area. What sets the reviews apart is how often they describe genuinely difficult jobs. In a 2024 review, one customer described an antique table moved across two states after other companies turned the job down; another 2024 review described a custom table left behind by a previous owner that no one else would remove. In a 2023 review, a customer working with the government described a table's slate, damaged in shipping, being repaired on-site for a junior sailors' game room. Rod is repeatedly credited with inspecting a table before starting and being upfront about what repairs were actually needed — several reviewers mention him recommending against unnecessary work, and a 2025 review described him explaining necessary repairs 'fairly, openly, and honestly.' The reviews also show a level of specialty knowledge that goes beyond moving furniture: reviewers describe Rod educating them on table history, materials, and buying decisions, sometimes talking someone out of moving an old table and toward buying a better used one instead. Multiple reviewers describe multi-step jobs — disassembly, moving, releveling, refelting, and reassembly — completed carefully and with visible pride in the craft. There's one exception worth noting. In a 2025 review, a customer described a mixed experience: the actual pool table work was satisfactory, but they found the customer service frustrating, even though scheduling had been easy and the company was responsive by phone. For moving, assembling, repairing, or refelting a pool table anywhere in New England, Magic Billiards & Games has an unusually deep, specific, and consistently positive multi-year track record built around one specialist and his small team — the one 2025 review about customer service friction is worth a quick question if a smooth post-job experience matters to you.
Great experience from first contact to last touchpoint - great prices and customer service second to none
My experience with Magic Billiards and Games was mixed. Their work on my pool table was satisfactory, but I had a frustrating experience with their customer service. Scheduling the appointment was easy and they were very responsive by phone call. The actual service call went fine until the payment. Their online payment platform triggered a fraud alert on my company card, and they were inflexible to allow for either a check or invoice since the payment wouldn’t be immediate, and even though the work had not yet been completed and an invoice was my company’s preferred method of payment. They kept me at work 2 hours past when the office closed trying to figure out the payment (and I tried 4 different corporate cards) before Rod agreed to let me speak to my office’s finance team in the morning and get back to him. I resolved the payment issue the next day after speaking with finance. It was especially frustrating because I found out that a colleague had similar difficulties with Rod’s payment system and he had still not resolved the issue, nor did he warn me he often has issues with credit card payments until we were deep into the issue. It took a few emails and calls in order to get the invoice and to schedule their return visit to finish repairs. On the day of the return appointment, they gave me a one-hour window for arrival. I was onsite and ready to meet them during that window. 15 minutes before the end of the window, they called to say they were running “a little late”- almost an hour and a half. When they arrived, they sent me searching for parts they thought they left behind because they couldn’t find them in their truck. I was fairly certain they hadn’t left the parts with me, because I had a picture of the worksite and the parts were not in the picture, but Rod insisted they had, so I went searching. Later, Mason found the parts in their truck. I am glad he kept looking and found them, but I was surprised that they didn’t keep better track of where the parts of my table were, and I was frustrated that I had to spend time looking for them. Lastly, the budget Rod recommended for this project ended up only being ~1/3 of the actual cost. I’m lucky I had extra funds otherwise I would have been in a tough situation. Overall, they took good care of the antique table, and I’m grateful for that. That’s the reason they’re getting 2 stars instead of 1. But there were many frustrations along the way, and I don’t think that I would book with them again.
Rod was fair, open, and honest in addressing the repairs needed to my pool table. Will definitely work with him again, if necessary.
We needed an older, high-end pool table moved, and Rod exceeded all expectations. After a quick inspection, he immediately pointed out and clearly explained some necessary repairs the table required. We approved the work, and he proceeded with the utmost care and professionalism. Rod is not only incredibly skilled, but also the most knowledgeable expert we’ve ever met when it comes to pool tables. Truly a top-tier professional—highly recommended!
I recently hired Magic Billiards to relocate a pool table for me, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Not only did they handle the move with precision and care, but they also took the time to thoroughly assess the table’s condition and value. Their honesty and transparency about what to expect really stood out—there were no surprises, just clear communication and expert knowledge every step of the way. It’s rare to find a company that’s this professional, responsive, and genuinely committed to doing right by their customers. I don’t think I could recommend Magic Billiards enough. If you need anything related to pool tables, these are the people you want to call. Truly five-star service.
