Matos General Construction in New Britain has been hired for concrete-step repairs, fixture installation, ceiling repairs and assembly work. Its HomeAdvisor customer accounts run from 2019 to 2021, with praise for Walfredo’s work alongside serious complaints about workmanship and unfinished jobs. HomeAdvisor shows 3.9 stars from 25 ratings. In October 2019, a customer said Walfredo repaired front and side concrete steps, scheduled the work quickly and finished as promised. An April 2019 customer described new faucets in two bathroom sinks, tub and shower fixtures, and a bedroom-ceiling repair, praising the result and his willingness to work cooperatively. Another April 2019 reviewer appreciated his persistence assembling a desk despite missing instructions and parts. A July 2019 customer described hiring Mr. Matos to assemble and install a gazebo. When the customer thought it was too large, he took it down, boxed it up and reduced the bill because he had not installed it. The customer said they had since rehired him to reassemble and install it. A December 2020 reviewer praised Wally’s punctuality, hard work and quality. The complaints are specific. In June 2021, one customer alleged damaged wiring requiring an electrician, unfinished agreed work, refusal to put changes in writing and a demand for another $500. The reviewer said a job expected to take three or four days stretched to eight and remained incomplete, and that they paid him to leave. Another June 2021 customer said substandard work left them doing the project themselves. A March 2021 reviewer complained about the result of a $4,500 job; a February 2020 customer said they had to fix almost everything and clean up a mess.
This was the worst experience, I thought I was safe having Angi do the vetting, but I was wrong. I experienced every negative review posted. He jacked up my wiring and now I have to hire an electrician to fix his incompetent work. Things we agreed to were not completed. I asked several times during our negotiation meeting for everything in writing, I was told it would cost him to redo the quote. I told him I would be okay with the info in email, but he refused. Now I see why, he had the audacity to tell me he wanted another $500 and that I was taking advantage of him because he did more worked. Insane! A 3-4 day job turned into 8 days and it still was not complete. He told me that he has an 80k job to start and he can not be at my house anymore. That right there tells you something. He talked down to my female painter who has been patient and working around Walfredos half days. Oh boy, stay away from this guy!! There is just so much more. A half star is generous. I paid him to leave my house.
I had to do the project myself. He was very convincing but his work was substandard.
Very responsive and friendly service.
