A recent review describes an old stone and cement wall removed, a wooden retaining wall replaced with a stone one and the front lawn filled in, and says everything came out beautifully. A recent review describes a $20,079 backyard grading and patio job that went wrong: standing water 8 to 10 feet from the house foundation, uneven pavers and polymeric sand stuck to their face. In that review the customer says the company offered to cut $200 off the price for a 5 star review and has ignored their messages since finishing. A 2023 review says McAdams installed French drains around the house after basement flooding, then landscaped the part of the yard where they excavated. A 2022 review describes Round River Rock Stone installed along approximately 180 feet (both sides) of a driveway, with material excavated to a 3 inch depth and landscape fabric laid before the stone. A 2021 review says damage was done to the house and the repair was not finished.
The work was done efficiently and we'll. We had an old stone and cement wall removed, a wooden retaining wall replaced with a stone one and the front lawn filled in. Everything came out beautifully. They take pride in their work and it shows.
We hired this company with the hopes of getting a good job done. This was based on all the 5 star reviews they have. These reviews are bought, when they were doing the job and were almost done they offered to cut $200 off the price if I would give them a 5 star review. I told them I didn't have a problem with giving them a good review depending on the outcome of their work. Terrible Workmanship and Zero Accountability – Do Not Hire I paid McAdams Excavation & Landscaping $20,079 in full for a backyard grading and patio project, and the results have been a total disaster. The quality of work is completely unacceptable, and the owner, Ken McAdams, has refused to take responsibility. 1. Severe Drainage & Grading Failures: The backyard was supposed to be sloped to carry water 50 feet away from the house. Instead, they graded it incorrectly, causing massive pools of standing water to sit just 8 to 10 feet from my house foundation. This is a severe risk for structural water damage. 2. Ruined, Defective Patio: The installed pavers are completely uneven, creating visual flaws and dangerous tripping hazards. To make matters worse, the crew left polymeric sand cured and stuck all over the face of the pavers. The contractor lied and told me it would "just sweep off." It is permanently bonded, leaving the stones heavily hazed and ruined. 3. Substandard Materials: They used low-grade, rocky loam filled with stones, rocks, and debris to finish and reseed the yard. Because of the terrible soil quality, grass cannot establish or grow. Since finishing, the company has completely ignored my messages, refused to sign for a certified formal demand letter, and offered zero path toward remediation. I am now forced to hire a new contractor to completely excavate, re-grade the yard, and rebuild the patio. Save your money, protect your property, and look elsewhere. *** Scott C
What to say about McAdams Excavation. When I first contacted them, Ken was very friendly and set up a time to come out to the house and go over the scope of the project that we needed done. When he came out he looked at everything and said he would put together a quote and get back to me. The initial project was to replace and install a new exterior French drain along the back of the house that we had a problem with over the winter with a frost heave actually lifting the corner of the house. He also suggested that he should put heat tape into the drain pipe to keep them from freezing during the winter, he went as far to say they would automatically come on when the weather got cold and turn off when everything warmed up in the spring and they came with a 10 year warranty. Then he pointed out that there was old asphalt out there and it should be removed so they could regrade the surface under the deck and the entire backyard to have the water drain away from the house. He also pointed
