Typical landscaping service around $60
MJ Nicholls Landscaping has been doing site work in Quincy long enough to land a $2.6 million public contract — a 2024 news article reported the company won that job in 2022 to renovate Mount Wollaston Cemetery, plus a separate $426,500 tree-planting contract the same year. The company says its story goes back over two decades, and BBB records back that up: it was started in 1996, about 30 years ago, and it carries a BBB A+ letter grade (it isn't BBB-accredited, which BBB treats as a separate, voluntary step). It has also picked up outside recognition — an Angie's List Super Service Award in 2011 and a Talk of the Town Customer Satisfaction Award dating to 2010. The written customer record is thin and mixed. In a December 2012 review, a customer praised Matt and his crew for finishing storm-cleanup work quickly and on budget after Hurricane Sandy, calling the results stunning. Two more recent, undated BBB reviews tell a rougher story: one customer says her mowing service was cancelled after she complained about the quality of a job, with no notice beyond an email she says she never received; another says the company doesn't stand behind its work when something goes wrong and doesn't return calls. Worth asking about directly: how the company handles a complaint or a problem after the fact, since that's the specific concern both negative accounts raise. One more thing worth noting — the company's own website says 20 years in business, while BBB's incorporation records put it closer to 30, so the two don't quite agree on the number. On paper, this is a company with real institutional standing — a public contract win, an A+ BBB grade, an old industry award — alongside a short customer-service record for homeowner work that leans negative on follow-through. Worth a direct conversation about who handles a callback if a job doesn't go as planned before booking routine maintenance.

Matt and his crew did an excellent job, starting just a day or two after Hurricane Sandy. Work was completed quickly and the project stayed on budget. The results are stunning and we could not be happier with the quality of the work done.
Does not stand behind his work if there is a problem. Does not return calls.
Cancelled my mowing service when I complained about the quality of the job. Said he sent an email but I never received it and had no idea it was cancelled until it didnt get mowed and I contacted them.
