In an October 2026 one-star Google review, a Concord, Vermont customer wrote that over two years earlier they hired Brant Schreiber of Mountain Logworks to build a two-car garage with an attached apartment, and warned others not to use the company. The reviewer wrote that Brant charged a 15% general contractor fee but did not share a master plan of personnel, materials, costs and timelines at the outset, did not supervise or follow up with the subcontractors he brought in, and left the project with many construction delays. The same reviewer said they were kept out of meetings with the subs, ended up paying for twice as many lights, plugs and doors as necessary, and paid for excessive materials Brant ordered. Mountain Logworks, LLC describes itself as a team of Vermont log cabin builders handcrafting log and timber structures in the Scandinavian tradition from its building yard in Waterford, Vermont. Its Vermont residential contractor registration (174.0000292) is active in the name of Mountain Logworks, LLC. On Google it holds 4.3 stars from 6 ratings.
“Do not buy a kit log home off the internet- who carves it? What is the level of craftsmanship? Who assembles it? Who answers your questions? You want a reputable log home builder who understands the fundamentals of building with logs. It’s a niche specialty. Your contractors will have questions and you need a log home builder who can explain how to properly finish these structures. Look into “handcrafted log homes”- many of these companies have been in business for decades. The only handcrafted company I know of in Vermont is Mountain Logworks.”
My advice for anyone considering using Mountain Logworks for a building project: DON'T! You will regret it. Over two years ago I hired Brant Schreiber to build a two car garage with attached apartment. Brant is a master at pitching his beautiful log homes, but he doesn't earn his 15% general contractor (GC) fee because he doesn't do the essential work required of a GC. Brant doesn't share with you a master plan at the onset of the project showing personnel, materials, costs and timelines. He will obtain contractors but he doesn't supervise them nor follow up with them, so your project is often in a state of chaos with many delays in construction. He doesn't include you, the owner, in meetings with the subs so you don't know what is going on until all of a sudden you have twice as many lights, plugs, doors, etc. than necessary that you pay for! Plus he doesn't faithfully consider ideas or pictures that you, the owner, might have. He only likes his ideas and will fight you as you try to trim costs on other items. He orders excessive materials that you pay for. Bottom line: Brant Schreiber is a sly fox who talks a good game but cannot be trusted. I cannot recommend him for your construction projects.
