A 140-foot oak, damaged in earlier storms and leaning toward the house: that is the kind of job a recent customer called Mountain Tree Service, Inc. for. The customer described a setup to protect the lawn from the heavy equipment and a final cleanup that included blowing woodchips off the roof. A 2025 commenter in r/Connecticut recommended Mountain Tree Service in Somers for a hard-to-reach tree, saying they can use a track lift to get in there. The company says it has been in business 40 years and offers 24/7 emergency service and free estimates. On Google it holds 4.7 stars from 53 ratings, and its BBB grade is A+. A recent customer had four trees taken down and said two gentlemen came on time and placed large mats on the grass so the equipment wouldn't wreck the yard. A customer said the crew took down two large trees while they were away and removed everything without tearing up the lawn, at very reasonable pricing. A repeat customer said Barry is responsive, listens to what the homeowners are requesting and follows up with scheduling. In a 2024 review, a customer said the company was there the next day after a tree blew down on their gazebo, lifted the limb off it and took down the rest of the damaged tree. A 2024 customer said Barry came almost instantly when a tree fell across their power lines and blocked the driveway. A 2023 customer said a rotten maple fell on a son's car on Memorial Day and that, within a few hours of a text to Barry, the branches were out of the car so it could be towed. A 2023 customer said a crew of four trimmed and topped at least 25 hemlocks, some over 50 feet tall, by hand with ladders and climbing because there was no access for equipment, all in one day. A 2023 customer said Barry talked them out of taking down a tree, and that the team trimmed a Japanese maple, a weeping cherry and lilacs. A 2023 customer in Vernon had five trees removed and said the crew, led by Forrest, protected the lawn with impact mats and moved a spider lift and stump grinder around the yard. A 2022 customer said the owner gave a cash quote for trimming and removing dangerous branches and said he would be back in two to three weeks; after a month the customer called, and a week after that had no phone call and no update.
“Recommend American Tree Service in West Hartford or Mountain Tree Service in Somers. They can use a track lift to get in there.”
“SavATree and Mountain Tree Service also have cranes (Bartlett probably does too, but can’t say for certain) so they can remove the tree and carry it over the fence.”
The crew took down 2 large trees while I was away and other than the stumps and open space, you can barely tell they were there. They cleaned up and removed everything without tearing up the lawn. Very professional and very reasonable pricing.
Happy to say we are repeat customers. Barry is a pleasure to work with - he's responsive in his initial response, answering any questions / concerns and truly listens to what the homeowners are requesting. He follows up with scheduling and his crew is amazing. The work is top notch and the cleanup is above and beyond.
We recently called Mountain Tree Service to remove a very large oak tree (140 feet tall) which had been damaged in previous storms. The tree was leaning significantly toward our home. The professional manner in which they worked was amazing to watch. From the setup to protect the lawn from the heavy equipment to the final clean up, including blowing woodchips off the roof, the whole crew worked in a coordinated way to efficiently remove the tree. This is the third time we have used them and highly recommend Mountain Tree Service.
Great job! Had 4 tree’s taken down. Two gentlemen came, on time I should add. They placed large mats on the grass so their equipment wouldn’t wreck the yard. Price was good. I would recommend them for sure!
Great all around! So professional.
