Mr. Handyman of Cheshire, Middletown, Old Saybrook takes the small jobs: a lock, a doorknob, curtain rods, a mailbox post, a patio turned into a catio. It holds 4.7 stars from 188 Google ratings, and customers name the technicians, such as Jim, Jose and James, by first name. The specifics are concrete. In a December 2025 Google review, Jim fixed a previous repair to wooden shingle siding that had not been nailed properly and had no flashing, so water damage had accrued; he removed a board, added a rubber barrier, re-nailed it and caulked around the windows above. A July 2026 reviewer with Anderson French doors that other repair people doubted could be fixed had them repaired by James within 2 business days. An April 2026 Thumbtack reviewer said Jose called his boss, Ray, for a drill and the pair installed a mailbox post together. In a February 2024 review, the company came out the same day to clear dead ivy off a two-story chimney that no one else would touch. Its Connecticut HIC license, HIC.0664724, is active on the state registry. Its BBB grade is A+. The complaints are about follow-through and billing. A September 2026 Google reviewer selling an estate from out of state paid over 2k and found that half the items charged for had not been done. A July 2026 reviewer was charged a service call when a caulking job failed. In a November 2025 review, a customer said door jambs were broken during a 2024 hinge job and put back broken. A 2023 reviewer was quoted $850.00 for an office door and billed $1,600.00 plus, and a 2024 reviewer said a porch railing job used plastic sleeves instead of the Azek they paid for.
On time arrival for indoor and outdoor windows cleaning…many large windows in house!
Started off as a great experience. Needed work done on house that is an estate so we could sell it. I’m not in the state so had to trust they would do a good job. Came out within a couple days. That is were the good service ended. I had sent pictures of what needed to be completed. Took couple days payed them over 2k for work. Had someone go out and inspect to see it was done and found that half of the items they charged me for had not been completed. Contacted company sent pictures again of work that hadn’t been completed that Inhad paid for. They once again sent out technician to finish up. Once again items from picture completely ignored. Now they won’t even answer the phone. I would love to recommend them but sadly I can not. Stay away if you can.
Jim was very pleasant, worked in a timely fashion, solved a few kitchen cabinet issues and was willing to help me with some other household issues I had.
The person that came was excellent. Excellent excellent excellent excellent I would call back in a heartbeat for any repairs.
Jose was on-time and he was very informative as to what was happening with the job and estimated time of completion. After the job was done he cleaned up showed the job to see if we were happy before leaving.
