Newport Construction Corporation

Newport Construction Corporation is a heavy-highway civil contractor at 145 Temple St in Nashua. By its own description it does roadway and site development, asphalt paving and asphalt and aggregate manufacturing, mainly for government agencies, municipalities and developers rather than for homeowners; the company says it was founded by Richard A. DeFelice in the early 2000s and that the NEWPORT companies were acquired by VINCI in 2024. The Better Business Bureau lists it as an A+ rated, non-accredited road contractor incorporated in 2000, with no reviews or complaints on that profile. Its Google profile is a different picture: 2.7 stars from 37 ratings, and almost every written review comes from someone living beside a municipal job rather than someone who hired the company. The complaints repeat. A June 2025 reviewer in Tyngsboro described a neighbourhood repaving done the previous November in which one section was dug out and the other milled down, asphalt was laid over thick leaf piles, and the roller stalled with asphalt sticking to the drum, leaving surface imperfections; by spring the intersections had to be repaved and dips were showing through the milled section. An August 2024 reviewer was left unable to reach his driveway for three days and said the gap left in the torn-up road ripped the front lip off his car. In November 2021 another driver said his car was damaged during Broad St repaving in Nashua, and that after the city pointed him at a third-party insurance claim, the company wrote back denying it. Driving and site conduct come up repeatedly too — a truck run up onto a sidewalk beside a public playground in 2023, a near-miss with a water tanker in 2021, trucks entering a Hudson street during restricted hours in 2024, and a July 2026 complaint about shouting through a megaphone before the permitted start time. The only account from someone who hired the company directly is a 2021 driveway job the reviewer says came out shorter than agreed with the wrong gravel on top, and a request to fix it refused. One 2022 reviewer, by contrast, called the company incredibly well run and the best in the business. Separately, local business coverage reported in March 2024 that Nashua's Planning Board had voted the previous June to block the company's proposed asphalt plant at its own Temple St site, and that Newport was pursuing the matter in Hillsborough County Superior Court. This is a municipal and commercial road builder, not a residential contractor. A homeowner is far more likely to encounter it working on their street than to hire it.
