Before one more day goes by, I need to give a shout out to a small and local family owned company that I discovered by chance. I don't normally pay as much attention to basic ongoing monthly household expenses as I should, but when I received a bill a few months ago from the large company that handles our trash and recyclable pick up, I took notice. I received a notification that my pick up price was going up significantly. Just for the heck of it, I called a couple of local places; the local trash removal company in my hometown of Bethel had been sold, so I ended up calling Redding Sanitation, a local family owned company. Rather than wait on hold listening to bad music and being the umpteenth caller in line (my experience with the large trash company), a friendly and professional woman answered the phone. The price difference for the same services amounted to about a 40% savings, so it was an easy decision to give my money to a small local company and pay significantly less. This is the clincher: When I called to cancel my services with the large conglomerate company, I was immediately told that they would MATCH the price of the small local company, and I wouldn't need to do anything else, BUT to tell them who the company was that had given me my quote. Clearly, if this large conglomerate garbage company had my interest in mind, they would've kept the costs reasonable rather than trying to undercut a small family business. It was a simple transition to have the large company pick up my trash bins and to have Redding Sanitation deliver two new ones. Particularly in a day and age where we are watching small places like this go away, it's a great time to consider patronizing a small family run business, with low prices and outstanding service, I might add. We've rented a dumpster from them twice now and they've been great! Everyone over the phone is really nice and Rick who dropped off the dumpster was quick, friendly, and accommodating.
