Redwood Outdoor Living & Design works out of 44 Hemlock Street in East Walpole and builds resort-style backyards: pools and spas, outdoor kitchens, pergolas and pavilions, fire features, patios and planting. Brian Mulvehill, a UMass Amherst landscape architecture graduate, founded and runs it, and the company says he started Redwood after leading the design-build division of another local firm. The company positions itself unusually for the trade. It says it acts as the client's owner's representative and manages construction rather than swinging the hammers itself, staying independent of the crews on site. Its own site claims 25 years of experience; its Houzz profile describes a family-owned design-build firm with over 15 years. The visible track record is still thin. One project, a Sherborn outdoor living build, is posted on Houzz, and the profile carries no customer reviews yet. In a 2025 LinkedIn post, a pool installer publicly thanked Redwood for the design behind a custom grotto feature built with a 25,000lb stone, which is the one piece of outside comment on the work. The stated service area is wide — Walpole, Westwood, Needham, Wellesley, Dover, Medfield, Dedham, Brookline, Foxboro, Cohasset and beyond — and the Houzz profile puts typical projects between $30,000 and $2 million. If you are considering them, ask for references from completed builds and a clear written scope of who holds the construction contract, since the firm describes itself as the designer and manager rather than the builder.
