Ross Tree and Contracting has been a family operation in Sudbury since Ross started it in 1981 — the company says 45 years in business, a figure both BBB and Thumbtack list too. It's staffed with certified pesticide applicators and trained arborists, and covers a wide swath of MetroWest towns: Sudbury, Littleton, Groton, Hopkinton, Westboro, Sherborn, Dover, Framingham, Ashland, Wayland, Weston, Southborough, Marlboro, Westford and Lexington. Reviews from 2017 through 2020 describe real tree work done well — in a 2020 review, a homeowner praised Ross's knowledge of both trees and plants after waiting a year to book him; a 2019 review described a project that grew from seven trees to about twenty, plus stump removal and yard leveling, all at a fair price; a 2017 review praised on-time, quality snow plowing. In an undated Better Business Bureau write-up, a customer called two rounds of tree trimming, removal and cleanup on a Carlisle property meticulous. Two brief 2024 reviews call the work excellent without much detail. There's a real complaint worth weighing too: in an April 2024 review, a customer said delivered firewood wasn't dry and some pieces were too large for their stove, and that equipment got stuck and damaged their lawn during the job. Separately, svepnavigator.com reports the company was the subject of an OSHA inspection opened in 2012 that resulted in two citations and $7,200 in proposed penalties — an old citation, but part of the history worth knowing. Google puts the company at 4.3 stars from 11 ratings and Thumbtack at 5.0 from 3. The longer history points to real tree and landscaping skill, but it's worth asking directly about firewood quality and how equipment is handled around a finished lawn.
