Two reviews across three platforms, both five stars, the newest from 2021. That is the entire public account of what it is like to hire Socios Property Solutions & Construction — a Methuen general contractor working out of 74 Union Street under owner Patrick Karongo, whose name the directories spell two different ways. The permits tell a fuller story than the reviews do. Fourteen filed jobs going back to 2013 across Lowell, Dracut, Somerville, Milton and Methuen, and they are genuinely mixed: decks, reroofs, a second-floor addition and interior renovations on the residential side, a large Lowell showroom fit-out and a church wall removal on the commercial. This is an outfit that takes both, at job values running from a few thousand dollars into the high six figures. Worth knowing that several of those permits are listed twice, so fourteen flatters the real count. Two things to weigh before calling. The company's own tenure claim moves depending on where you read it — its Angi page says "over 10 years" in one paragraph and "20 years" in the field directly above it, while BuildZoom states 13. The permit trail beginning in 2013 is the firmest anchor of the three. The licensing deserves a direct question. The number the company publishes itself on Houzz, 106838, is the same number BuildZoom lists as a City of Newton registration recorded as cancelled — entered once as a building contractor registration and once as a residential builder one. BuildZoom separately lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration under a different number, which has not been confirmed against the Commonwealth's own registry. Resolve that before a contract, not after. If you want one crew for a kitchen, a bath and the siding on the way out, Socios fits that shape, and the company says it works in Spanish as well as English. Ask for the current home improvement registration number and check it yourself with Consumer Affairs, and ask for two or three jobs finished in the last year that you can go and look at — the praise on file, warm as it is, has gone quiet since 2021.
