The Clean Estate describes itself as an estate liquidation and home clean-out business, handling everything from trash removal to antique sales, and says it has been in business 8 years. A local news photo caption names Tom Murphy as its owner. A recent Google customer who bought an old house filled with a family's lifetime of belongings said Tom and his team cleared it out in 2 weeks and ran a sale that netted more than they thought possible. That customer said the team then cleaned out the trash and unsold items in 2 days, for a reasonable fee, and left the space broom-clean. A customer who lives out of state said Tom and his staff made their move smooth and that everything was done right on time. A shopper at one of its sales said Ronnie helped with a hutch, priced it reasonably and helped make sure it got home. A seller who hired them gave one star, writing that there was no accounting for anything that was sold. That seller said the floor was left excessively scratched, a divot in a concrete floor was never fixed, and a scratched garage door was fixed four months after the sale, paid for by the company. The same seller said the sale was highly understaffed on its first day. A shopper at a sale called the staff rude and found nothing priced. That shopper said the homeowner told them things were stolen on opening day, with hundreds of people inside and not enough staff to monitor them.

“Tom Murphy, top left in plaid shirt, owner of The Clean Estate, rushes Friday morning to get Nugget the dog, who escaped from Ann Butler’s home on Ware Street in Lewiston.”
Tom and his team did an incredible job clearing out an old house we purchased that was filled to the brim with a families' lifetime of stuff. They did in 2 weeks what would have taken us many months to accomplish on our own. The sale was professionally run and netted more than we thought possible. For a reasonable fee the team then cleaned out all trash and items that did not sell in just 2 days and left the space broom-clean. I was honestly amazed at how fast they did everything - and with a smile the whole time! Would definitely recommend for an overwhelming cleanout job.
10/10-would NOT hire them again. There was zero accounting for anything that was sold, they seemed more interested in selling a pile of clothes than any of the higher ticket items that were for sale. I went out of my way to prepare things the week before, so we could review what everything was and was left in the dark till the week of the sale. The day of the sale was pure chaos, that’s coming from friends and neighbors that came to the sale. I was not present. At one point, the owner was storming through the house, yelling and swearing that somebody had stole something, only to be corrected and shown that the item was still in the same general area by a buyer who was a neighbor. The list goes on and on…did I get some money, yes, did I get as much money as I should’ve I would say definitely not. As I said earlier there was no accounting for anything. It was just here’s the number on a piece of paper and here’s what we’re gonna pay you, here’s the hours that we cleaned, again with no accounting. There was a boat for sale that numerous people asked about, on the Facebook listing, as well as in person and, again this is from people that were here, and it got back to me that he had no information about the boat didn’t know anything about it, and then ultimately, he ended up buying it when it should’ve been sold to a buyer that was willing to pay. C’est la vie. Oh, and let’s not forget the damages!!! Floor was excessively scratched, there was a divot in a concrete floor that was supposed to have been fixed that was never fixed. I had $100 bill thrown at me to fix it. The larger ticket item , garage door with a 3’+ scratch/indent, which was just fixed four months post sale. Granted they paid for it, but I shouldn’t have had to dealt with any of this.Took out the mailbox with a truck… They were highly understaffed for the initial sale day, which was a Friday/good weather/ early May- people were chomping at the bit. It was a stampede!!! If you want Pennie’s on the dollar-this is your outfit!!!
My boyfriend and I truly enjoy attending these estate sales! Tom is very kind and helpful, along with all his staff. Ronnie helped us with a lovely hutch, priced it very reasonably, and even went out of her way to help us make sure we got it home. Thank you Ronnie! This business is very organized and attentive with time! We will definitely continue attending these estate sales ❤️
I would like to thank Tom and his staff for making this move so smooth. Everything was done right on time and if we had any questions, Tom had all the answers. He also recommended a real estate agency whom was unbelievable!!! The Clean Estate was there from the start to the very end and I don’t know what we would have done without them. We live out of state, and Tom was such a pleasure to work with and would highly recommend this company!!! Thank you!!!!
From a buyers perspective, the staff was unbelievably rude and could not have been less interested in what they were doing. The lack of pricing on anything is slightly off-putting because you have no idea what the floor or the ceiling price is on what you may be interested in. That being said while I was there, I also got to talking to the homeowner and discovered things had literally been stolen from their home because there was zero control on opening day with Hundreds of people inside the home at one time without enough staff to monitor everything. I had a gut feeling after viewing their Facebook posts that it was going to be a less than stellar experience, especially considering they have typos in nearly every post, often fail to even list where the estate sale is and alter every picture with a filter. In my opinion, very much bush league in comparison to other companies operating in the area.
